I've been learning English on Preply for just over two years and I am extremely satisfied. The app and website are fantastic, making it convenient to learn a foreign language with an professional tutor directly from another country, flexible scheduling and an interactive platform. The level of trust is very high. Special thanks to the Preply team for their quick support in case of any questions!
Bad experience from all aspects
I signed up with Apple. Then I wanted to login to Preply website from a browser on a Windows laptop, but I couldn’t, since I didn’t have any password. Did not find a way to speak with a real person from Preply support. So I had to set up the password manually and only after I got all credentials to login. And while doing that I was logged out from the app every 5 seconds.
When searching for a tutor, same tutor can appear twice or even three times in the search results. If you like several tutors, there is no way to add them to favorites or smth similar, I was saving the links to their profiles in my Notes to review the shortlisted candidates.
Not clear what native speaker actually means - when a tutor is from a non-English speaking country, does not live in an English-speaking country and speaks with a strong foreign accent - why such tutors are regarded as natives?
I selected a tutor and had one class with her. Afterwards I bought 5 hours and scheduled another class with her. But one day before the class she quit. So now I need to look for another tutor.
And today I received a notification: hey, schedule another class with K. (tutor’s name). So I thought that my tutor is back - not at all, still inactive, this was just a wrong message, since naturally one cannot schedule another class with inactive tutor.
THE REVIEW
So, I gave you low grade, because i had bad experience of using your app. I’m 15-year and i had bought a subscription for a month (twice a week) for learning italian. The italian tutor decided to give me a discount, because i’m ukrainian and the number of hours i bought earlier had increased, i had been studying for a month twice a week as i planned, because of my studying at school online i didn’t have the time to study more. In the end of a month all my hours just disappeared (IT WAS 72€)then i wrote to the Preply support, but after all, negotiations ended with nothing. It is a pity, that foreigners are trying to help learn the language necessary for communicating, but the company owned by the Ukrainian is earning money in this way.
