Duet Display 4+

Works great, but be aware...

Picture is sharp and smooth and the team behind this great app is very supportive in case of any issue, but keep in mind it’s not a substitute for an external monitor - when working on static screen (editing doc, etc.) Duet uses around 20% of your CPU. But when watching a video or working in just a bit more vivid UI environment (eg. Ableton Live), the CPU usage goes above 80% by Duet itself! So forget about watching a video without the huge noise of your computer's fans in the background.

Avoid this like the plague

Worst experience I ever had with any app from the App Store.

For this to work, you need to have it on your iPad and you Mac or Windows PC. Worked fine on Mac, but recently I use my PC more often so I installed the latest version and couldn’t log into Windows afterwards. Hard crash, blue screen, 100% of the time. Apparently this is a frequent enough problem that when I searched for the blue screen error Duet Display was near the top of the list of possible culprits.

Uninstalling it was a massive pain, though it is more an issue with Windows 10. Still, couldn’t remove it in safe mode without modifying the registry which is always a fun way to spend an hour of your Saturday evening.

Once it was purged, my PC returned to working flawlessly.

Worst piece of software I have ever used. I remember running into a computer virus on my parents’ PC back in XP days and it was a more pleasant experience than using this pile of junk.

This stuff can sometimes happen even to the best software devs when the system update bricks your app. But when you google and get results with people having the same problem in 2017, 2018 and 2019 then the people responsible for the Windows version should really consider a career change. Problems can happen, but persistent problems are unforgivable.

Avoid, avoid, avoid.

I wish I could have my money back.

Misleading advertising

Besides, that app works quite laggy with Macbook Pro 2015 and iPad Pro, I feel cheated by the developers, I wanted a simple app that will help me while giving online lectures by allowing me to use Apple Pencil and Gestures. Unfortunately, these functions are blocked behind another payment options that pop up just after you lunching the application. If you search for "duet display apple pencil support," you will find a duet pro web page that is almost identical to the standard duet webpage. On both pages, there is no information about the subscription model and the differences between them. It's sad because I'm almost sure that developers intentionally make it that way to confuse their customers, a very unfair practice. I will definitely report this and try to refound this purchase.

Sorry for the confusion this might have caused to you. The payment for the subscription is due to the wide range of opportunities that Duet Pro can give our users.

This requires a lot of development to support, and it is only for a small number of users, so the only model that works for us is an ongoing subscription. That is why the main product is a one time purchase, and the niche features like Air & Pro are for a small market but more work.
