Editors’ Notes

Overcast really loves podcasts. You can tell. Everything here has clearly been the result of a lot of podcast listening, and the result is an app that does everything you want to do without unnecessary features or unnecessary fuss.

A Design Change Worth Adapting To

When I first opened the updated version of Overcast, I was initially surprised by the new design. It didn't take long, though, for me to get accustomed to it. I understand that not everyone is thrilled about having to adapt to a new design in apps they use daily, but after using it for a bit, I can confidently say it's a change worth embracing.

Marco has mentioned that this redesign is part of a broader plan to ensure the app's development continues smoothly in the future. If this change helps secure the longevity and improvement of our favourite podcast listening app, it's a no-brainer for me. I believe in giving this update a chance, as it could mean Overcast will continue to serve us well for years to come.

And let's be honest—if you find yourself unable to adapt to these changes, there are other podcast apps out there. But for now, I'm sticking with Overcast and I am optimistic about what this and future updates will bring.

Best app for listening to spoken word

Overcast is best in class of apps for listening to spoken word because of the ingenuity of its custom audio engine that allows skipping through silence parts. This feature combined with higher than normal listening speed is great to ingest lots of information in even shorter time.
Personally I miss some UI features that were removed during last rewrite of the app, but I still use Overcast everyday. I also hope that many missing features could be reintroduced to app and I am looking forward to that.
