Navionics® Boating 4+

Uncertain future

Navionics payed for great sailors navigation for many years. Easy, stable and predictable interface, no fancy features, but balanced and reasonable pricing policy.
Things are changing last years. The pricing dramatically increases (specially for some popular areas) and there are no visible improvements justifying it. Of course all suppliers increased the price, but such a huge step? As a last “improvement” the public online charts (frequently used by paying users) changed to something like selling and advertising point which made it unusable. Again I understand for public, but very bad news for paying customers loosing the functionality.
All this makes me afraid of the feature of this app and I’m not sure to pay next subscription. Maybe there is something bright behind the corner, but maybe the app is getting to dyeing mode. The common support response on all discussions is just copy/paste non meaningful text. Lets hope something is going to happen, but maybe it is time to consider other options.

Navionics Boating has evolved into a premium navigation tool offering the latest technology in updates, overlays, planning, navigation. It offers the same charting experience as our premium chart plotter mapping products Navionics Platinum+ & Garmin Navionics Vision+ at a competitive price point.

The new chart viewer on Garmin.com: https://tinyurl.com/39xpbzps offers easy to search chart information, map options, coverage details, recently updated locations and more, for all Navionics and Garmin marine charts in one single tool.
This new chart viewer no longer contains route planning functionality. Any of your saved routes created from our previous tool are stored on your account and accessible to you through your Boating app by simply launching the app or by selecting “sync” in the app menu.
Route planning continues to be available within our Boating app while under an active subscription. From the Navionics Boating app, routes, tracks, and markers can be shared across your mobile devices, Garmin & 3rd party chartplotters by way of export/import of GPX files as well as other Navionics Boating app users with the app sharing feature. Sync routes and markers directly from your Navionics Boating app to your Plotter Sync compatible unit.

Used to be good

Navionics used to be a good app. Simple to use and working. New pricing policy tripled the subscription cost for Croatia, clunky features added that stand in your way instead of helping you (e.g. photos), and so on and so on. Stay away until they get better
