Description

The Sleep app is designed to help you meet your sleep goals, including getting enough sleep, getting to bed on time, and even creating a pre-bedtime routine. You can easily track your sleep and wake up in the morning with alarm sounds or haptics. The Sleep experience includes bedtime reminders, wake-up alarms, sleep tracking, Sleep Focus, Wind Down, and a view of your sleep trends over time.

Features

• Set a sleep schedule to help you meet your sleep goals and get to bed on time.

• Track your sleep stages and how much you sleep when you wear Apple Watch to bed. Apple Watch uses data from the accelerometer and heart rate sensor to determine what stage of sleep you are in.

• Turn on Sleep Focus and lock the screen with Sleep Lock. Tapping the screen dimly displays time, date, and morning alarm.

• Use Wind Down to help you relax before heading to bed. Sleep Focus is also enabled during Wind Down to help you meet your sleep goals.

• Wake up to gentle sounds or a haptic wake-up alarm so you don’t disturb anyone else around you.

• Receive a wake-up screen each morning with today’s weather forecast and current battery life so you can remember to charge.

• Review sleep statistics in the Health app on iPhone including sleep times, sleep stages, sleep goals, respiratory rate, and sleeping heart rate.

• See Breathing Disturbances in the Health app and receive a notification if your Breathing Disturbances data shows consistent signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea.*

• When your phone is locked with a passcode, all your health and fitness data in the Health app — other than your Medical ID — is encrypted. Your health data stays up to date across all your devices automatically using iCloud, where it is encrypted while in transit and on Apple servers.

*Not available in all regions. Sleep Apnea Notifications are available on Apple Watch Series 9 and later and Ultra 2. It is intended to detect signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea for people 18 years old or older without a diagnosis of sleep apnea.

Happy with the minutiae, but features missing

Was really excited when Apple Watch officially began supporting sleep tracking! I enjoy having a focus mode for sleep, that it turns off the screen and notifications and sets a sleep state.
With that said it feels like more could be added. Right now the watch cannot successfully detect when I’m actually falling asleep or waking up, rather it seems to mark the moment I’m in bed as I am asleep and the moment my alarm goes off as I am awake. This makes the data not terribly useful, and the “you met your sleep goal” feel not particularly accurate.
Would love to have a separate sleep app, maybe with a link to the mindfulness app, to help someone a) get ready for bed, and b) to tune the sleep algorithm to individual experience.
Finally, the sleep schedule still does not work for shift workers. We really need a way for our watch to not suddenly say I’m supposed to be asleep when I’m still at work… that is just sad and reminds me we are not at home with our loved ones.

It’s ok I guess

It’s ok I guess but I highly suggest adding light rem and deep sleep recording I also suggest adding smart alarms that wake you up when your in your lightest sleep so you feel more refreshed in the morning

Not impressed with this app

I was super excited to get my Apple Watch. I had a Fitbit versa that I loved but I wanted an Apple Watch after a few years with the versa. The sleep app is absolutely horrendous, it is less than basic and does not give accurate readings. Versa would say what time you fell asleep, how long you were asleep, in REM sleep, restlessness.
Please Apple, vamp this app up as it’s really not great.
