Description

An open world adventure game filled with silly characters and terrible secrets.

Afterplace is an adventurous retro game for those who like to get lost. It's a huge open world, full of hidden secrets, treasures, and creatures. You'll run around the woods, fight monsters, and talk to ostensibly shady characters! Be warned though: you never know what the forest might be hiding, and not all trails are paved. Labyrinths and dungeons are tucked away in the most concealed nooks. There are no waypoints in Afterplace. You'll have to forge your own path.

Originally designed for mobile devices, Afterplace strives to bring an experience that feels both small and immense at the same time. The game has simple, fluid controls, allowing you to focus on exploration and discovery. Characters are happy to chat - or you can run right past them! You get to choose what story to explore, if any at all (we are not responsible for the consequences of ignoring the story, whatever they may be).

About the Author:
Afterplace is made by one person, Evan Kice. A former software engineer from Austin TX, Evan quit his job (to the dismay of his friends and family) and has been working full time on Afterplace since early 2019. The initial game released in December of 2022, but Evan plans on continuing to support and polish the game when he can!

Ratings and Reviews

Funny, witty, unique

Afterplace is an incredibly witty and nostalgic game that took me by surprise. When I first started playing, I was hit with a strong sense of nostalgia, but I was initially worried it might become boring over time. However, the storyline quickly proved me wrong—it’s clear, funny, and intriguing throughout. I found myself laughing a lot at the silly animations, and the dialogue, which is both impressive and adaptive, kept me engaged.

The game strikes a perfect balance between fun, mystery, and good humor, I even got scared a few times (slightly, it’s very ok for most people, I just have a very small heart) which kept me hooked right until the end. While I was sad to see it conclude, I felt a sense of satisfaction with how it wrapped up. I truly hope the developer works with the same team on future projects, as *Afterplace* is a refreshing example of what modern technology can do for retro-style games while staying true to that classic feeling. It’s a delightful fusion of old and new, and I can't wait to see more like it!
