Write - Best Note Taking App 4+

This could be a good app, except there are some annoying small aspects that interrupt work flow.

Firstly, there is no scroll bar in the RH column, where one does the writing, so just moving around in the note is a pain. When you exit a note then come back in you are put at the start of the note forcing you to scroll to whre you left off. Page Up and Down don’t work correctly. If paging down it works for awhile then oscilates between the previous page and the current page while repeatedly pressing Page Down. Again moving around is a pain.

The app overwrites my settings on the extension of a file. I have a markdown file with the extension hidden, but opening the file in Write unhides the extension. This happens to any file opened in Write.

Suggesting enhancements and corrections go unanswered. It appears this app isn’t supported any more and there have been no updates in 14 months. It is a real pity.

Write has quickly become my go-to app for everything from jotting down ideas/thoughts to drafting business documentation. It is easy to use, has excellent export options, and plays nicely with iOS versions of the app. Markdown and MultiMarkdown support also appears to be more complete than in other similar apps.

Most importantly for me though, Write supports tags in both OSX and iOS - I use tags heavilly to organise my data and have been constantly frustrated by the limitted tagging support offered by other similar apps.

I have noticed a couple of minor quirks with Write, however the developer has been very responsive and open to feedback.

There are a lot of markdown apps out there and write might not be the best just yet, but I love it already. It has most of the features you need in most markdown apps, but in particular it supports adding arbitrary folder to sidebar and tags synced across devices through iCloud. It might not offer the best writing experience per se, but these two are killer features for file organisation, which is an integral part of daily writing. If you by an chance need to mingle drafts, long piece and notes, you’d love it.
