    Great design

    Great design
    I bought this hat to replace another brands design of the same concept. Check out the huge improvements to SnR on my Zwave network, and typical fan speeds. Can't recommend enough.

      I haven't unboxed this one. I really like the look of the board but it will be a while before I install and use.

      I suspect that this may be more of a documentation issue, but given the absolute lack of documentation for this hat, I haven't yet solved it, nor does the vendor seem to have any support to speak of..

      The problem: the PoE part of the board works fine, but the M.2 part does not power-up. When booted, the Pi 5 complains: "This power supply is not capable of supplying 5A. Power to peripherals will be restricted".

      Assuming the board is functional, there may be some additional kernel/boot config needed.

      The Pi 5 is attached to a PoE+ switch, with plenty of available power. Each port supports 802.3at (25+W - 5+A).

      PCIe cables have been double-checked. The M.2 power LED doesn't light.

      This item was received for free, however, this review is 100% honest and unbiased.

      I recently got the NMVE PCIe hat for my Raspberry Pi, and I have to say, it's impressive. The headers align perfectly with those on the Pi, including the four-pin connector. However, I found the fan wiring to be a bit peculiar, as it runs between one of the capacitors on the board. I'm a little concerned about heat issues if it gets too warm.

      On the plus side, the build quality is fantastic—it has a solid feel and doesn't come off as cheap. Plus, it really makes the most of the limited space available. I chose this hat over the OEM Pi M.2 option mainly because it includes the headers on its own.

      I attached a 256 GB Toshiba 2232 SSD that I had lying around, and setting it up was a breeze. I mounted Raspberry Pi OS on an SD card and then installed it onto the SSD through the hat without any issues.

      5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality PoE/NMVe (802.3at/PoE+/30W) module to use your Ethernet network for power

      I love this PoE/NVMe HAT+ module from Waveshare!

      Waveshare stuff is always very good quality - great board construction with excellent quality components. This board is no different. All the tolerances for everything are perfect - it installed effortlessly after watching the video included in the product listing. Note that a LOT of PoE gear uses the older standard of 802.3af, which can only supply up to 15.4W - you'll get complaints from your RP5 if you use that! In fact, I wouldn't recommend using this PoE HAT with so little power - and I'm not going to fully test it at that power level. My own testing used a UPoE switch (60W) which worked perfectly.

      NVMe functionality worked perfectly and installing was effortless using the included mounting hardware. Note that you don't need a high-performance NVMe storage device - the RP 5 can't utilize I/O anywhere near the level of what a typical PCIe NVMe can, so a budget NVMe storage device would be fine for this module.

      I love being able to reduce the number of cables going to my RP gear and this is the best option - power and data over a single PoE-enabled Ethernet cable. And NVMe adds the fastest-possible performance (boot/update/install/reinstall - whatever!) to your RP5.

      Pi adapter lets me add fast storage to Raspberry Pi 5. Comes with cooling fan and connects through one ethernet cable which also powers everything. Fits standard M.2 drives from laptops. Instructions helped with setup process. Speed feels much better than standard SD card. My projects run faster now. Used in home office setup, runs quiet and cool. Would recommend. Excellent value for price. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

      5.0 out of 5 stars Modulo nvme e PoE per Raspberry Pi 5
      Reviewed in Italy on October 22, 2024
      Amazon Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )

      5.0 out of 5 stars Funktioniert perfekt!
      Reviewed in Germany on October 1, 2024
      Der PoE Hat ist super. Die Höhe ist schön niedrig und der gesamte Aufbau wird dadurch nicht sonderlich höher. Das lässt Freude aufkommen wenn man das Konstrukt z.B. in ein Rack einbaut oder in entsprechende Gehäuse.

      WICHTIG!!!
      ===============
      Damit die SSD erkannt wird muss das Kabel richtig herum eingebaut werden. Da das Flexkabel auf beiden Seiten einen weißen Pfeil hat hilft das nicht. Damit es klappt muss der Schriftzug außen lesbar sein. Das ist die Seite auf der die Schwarz lackierten Flächen sind.

      ZUSÄTZLICH:
      ==============
      Damit die SSD vom Betriebssystem erkannt werden kann muss die datei /boot/firmware/config.txt angepasst werden.
      Für PciEx Gen 2 fügt man diesen Eintrag hinzu: dtparam=pciex1
      Für PciEx Gen 3 fügt man diesen Eintrag hinzu: dtparam=pciex1_gen=3
      Nach einem reboot wird die SSD dann erkannt.
