A hidden luxury gem in the heart of Berlin

juergd TripAdvisor review

The SO/ Berlin Das Stue is a luxurious 5-star gem located in Berlin’s diplomatic district, right next to the Tiergarten and Berlin Zoo. Housed in the former Royal Danish Embassy, this unique hotel has been a standout since its grand opening in December 2012. It is the only SO/ property in Germany, part of the Accor hotel group’s collection of luxury lifestyle hotels that blend local culture with a playful and audacious spirit. The hotel masterfully combines the timeless elegance of its 1930s architecture, designed by Johann Emil Schaudt, with the modern sophistication infused by Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola. Art and fashion are integral to the hotel’s unique character, with designers Viktor & Rolf contributing to its identity by creating the logo and uniforms, inspired by the classic uniforms of grand hotels and nodding to the nearby Berlin Zoo. Boasting 78 elegant rooms and suites, the SO/ Berlin Das Stue offers a truly luxurious experience. During my stay, I enjoyed a SO Embassy Room on the top floor, complete with a large terrace offering stunning views of the Tiergarten. These rooms feature wooden floors, king-size beds, 4K entertainment systems, working desks, built-in wardrobes, and bathrooms with large rainforest showers, some with free-standing bathtubs and separated toilets. Modern amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi, Nespresso coffee machines, and daily complimentary water, with housekeeping conducted twice daily. The bathrooms are equipped with exclusive toiletries created by the German brand Biehl Parfumkunstwerke, known for its artistic approach to fragrance creation. The five-star boutique hotel features a restaurant, "The Casual", with seating inside & on the courtyard terrace, & a bar, the "Stue Bar". "The Casual" serves breakfast, lunch, & dinner with varying hours throughout the week. Breakfast includes a buffet with a selection of bread rolls, pastries, cakes, cereals, yogurt, cold cuts ... in a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere of sausage & cheese, smoked salmon, hummus, spreads, vegetables, fruit, various fruit juices & sparkling wine. In addition to the buffet, warm à la carte dishes such as Eggs Benedict or Shakshuka are served at the table on a complimentary basis. In the evening the restaurant focuses on modern Mediterranean & European cuisine, using seasonal ingredients to create dishes that highlight the pure flavors of each component. The "Stue Bar" serves an impressive selection of whiskey & vermouth, along with a variety of other expertly crafted cocktails. In addition guests enjoy breathtaking views of the Berlin Zoo from the bar. The spa area on the ground floor spans 260 square meters & features a 14-meter pool, a Finnish sauna, & three massage rooms, ideal for both individual and couples’ treatments. The hotel's fitness room, which is located on the first floor, is equipped with high-quality Technogym equipment & offers a comprehensive training experience. The Tiergarten on the hotel's doorstep also offers the opportunity to go jogging. The SO/ Berlin Das Stue is truly a hidden gem in the middle of the hustle & bustle of the German capital & impresses with its unique design, its quiet yet central location & its good gastronomic offerings.

Very brief weekend solo trip. Excellent service at reception (warm, friendly, helpful)! Was easily able to book a massage at the spa the day before and had a great massage. Room was spacious and an even larger than expected. Great pillows! Good minibar selection. My only note is the shower was leaky (happened both days I showered, but not sure if user error). Lastly, the hotel is in a splendid location that is very green and quiet and peaceful.

Dear Rachelle U., Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the service at reception, your spa experience, and the comfort of your room—especially the pillows! We also appreciate your feedback about the shower and will have our maintenance team look into it to ensure it’s addressed. We hope to welcome you back soon for another enjoyable stay. Warm regards, Mattia Paino Head of Guest Relations

Overall good stay. There was a wedding over a couple of nights which really made it hard to enjoy the entire experience as areas were closed or it was very busy despite being a fully paying customer

We had a lovely week at the Stue in mid-September. My wife and I joined friends who also stayed at The Stue for our first week exploring Berlin together. We loved the hotel. The rooms were spacious and we loved the bathtub and shower in the bathroom, plus a separate toilet room with a sink. The towels were large and fluffy. We had plenty of water in the room and our friends loved the coffee service in the room. Our room was quiet and we slept well. I loved getting up and having my morning walks in the coolness of the park just across the street in this embassy neighbourhood. The hotel is quite avante garde with a boutique mixed with the check-in area. When we checked in we were given a glass of champagne (non-alcoholic versions also available). The hotel is gay friendly with a pride flag sticker at the entrance and trans staff. The spa is lovely with a heated pool and a sauna available to all guests, treatments extra of course. There is a private entrance to the Berlin Zoo and the front desk will sell tickets. There is a shopping district about 15 minutes from the hotel including a wonderful department store with a fab high end food court. What could have been better: the gym is small and really focused on cardio, no serious weight training equipment. The breakfast is quite expensive and only the buffet is offered. I paid a fortune to have a coffee, banana and roll on the run. Better to find a cafe at your first stop of the day. The bedding is a bit warm for warmer nights even with the air con on max cool. The turndown service could be more consistent and later in the day. The hotel gets extra credit for making my wife ice packs after she was stung by a bee and needed to reduce the swelling. The service was very quick.

Dear Rhicke J., Thank you for sharing such a detailed and thoughtful review of your recent stay with us. We are delighted to hear that you and your wife, along with your friends, had a memorable time at our hotel and enjoyed the spacious rooms, luxurious amenities we offer. It’s wonderful to know that you appreciated our location near the park and the peaceful atmosphere it provides for your morning walks. We are particularly pleased that our staff, including me, made such a positive impression on you during your stay. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all guests, and it's great to see that reflected in your feedback. Regarding your comments on areas for improvement, we appreciate your suggestions. We will take a closer look at the gym facilities and evaluate how we can enhance the variety of equipment available. As for breakfast, we understand that not everyone has time for a full buffet, and we will review how we can offer more flexible options for guests on the go. We're glad to hear the service was quick and helpful. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future for an even more seamless stay. Warm regards, Mattia Paino Head of Guest Relations
