June 2024, Singapore

The Automobile Association of Singapore Academy (AAS Academy) and Green Freight Asia Network Ltd (GFA) are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to renew the two organisations’ partnership for greener road freight operations across the Asia-Pacific region.

The signing of the MoU took place on 17 May 2024.

AAS Academy and GFA have worked together to promote eco-driving across the Asia-Pacific region. AAS Academy provides eco-driving modules conducted by certified trainers, while GFA encourages its members to take up eco-driving through the Eco-driving Programme and GFA Labelling and Certification Programme. Through the MoU, AAS Academy and GFA will continue working together to raise awareness on green driving methods. GFA members who are interesting in eco-driving modules will receive exclusive benefits from this partnership.

AAS Academy offers two specialised eco-driving modules designed to enhance skills and techniques aimed at improving driving efficiency and sustainability. For Train the Driver module, participants get to learn on how to harness the use of modern vehicle technologies and effective eco-driving techniques to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve fuel consumption, and reduce crash risk. This will improve the overall performance, safety, and comfort of the vehicles. AAS Academy also offers a module for Train the Trainer to equip fleet managers with the skills to hold training sessions for their drivers. Training can be conducted in-person or virtually, and in English and Mandarin Chinese.

GFA encourages logistics firms in the Asia-Pacific region to adopt greener driving habits through its Eco-driving Programme. The programme connects fleets with GFA’s training partners, such as AAS Academy, to equip them with eco-driving skills. GFA also promotes eco-driving as a step towards sustainability through the GFA Labelling and Certification Programme, where members can achieve higher certification levels by providing eco-driving training for their drivers. Eco-driving is promoted by GFA as a low-cost method of reducing emissions and increasing fuel efficiency, while enhancing driver safety and vehicle lifespan.

Quote from AAS Academy spokesperson:

“We are excited to be partnering with Green Freight Asia to create a meaningful impact together. GFA’s strong emphasis on sustainable operations aligns with our commitment towards fostering eco-conscious drivers, and I believe our shared values and commitment will propel our alliance to new heights. AASA brings expertise in eco-driving training for drivers and fleet safety management, complemented by GFA’s leadership in eco-driving programs and certification initiatives.”

– Mr Lee Wai Mun, Chief Executive Officer, Automobile Association of Singapore

Quote from GFA spokesperson:

“As the Asia-Pacific region is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, the transport industry needs to make changes to reduce their carbon footprint. GFA aims to support our member companies in achieving their climate targets, and we encourage eco-driving as one of the first steps in the sustainability journey for the logistics, freight and transport industry. Through the collaboration between AAS Academy and GFA, we hope to support more companies in enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions, which aligns with GFA’s mission for greener freight in the region.”

–Mr K. K. Ralhan, Director and Chief Executive Officer, Green Freight Asia Network Ltd.
