Prof. David McCarthy, chair of the Department of Art and Art History, has helped to organize a two-day event in Memphis—presented by Crosstown Arts and Rhodes' Lillian and Morrie Moss Endowment for the Visual Arts—featuring the 3-D documentary film, Westermann: Memorial to the Idea of Man If He Was an Idea about the artist's compelling journey to cope with post-traumatic stress disorder through art making.
Rhodes Celebrated for Beauty in Southern Living
Rhodes College has caught the eye of lifestyle magazine Southern Living and is featured in “The Most Beautiful College Campuses In The South.” In the article, writer Jennifer Chappell Smith describes Rhodes as a “haven inside the city,” noting its new and original Gothic-style buildings, some of which date back to 1925, and elegant oak trees grown with seedlings from Rhodes' original location in Clarksville, TN.

Rhodes College Receives Gift to Establish Theodore William Eckels International Art Practicum
The Theodore W. and Betty J. Eckels Foundation with support from Rick Eckels ’70 has established the Theodore William Eckels International Art Practicum at Rhodes College. The practicum will provide an art immersion experience internationally for four to five outstanding students majoring in art or art history to work abroad during an eight-week period in the summer months.

French Film Festival Back at Rhodes
Dr. Laura Loth, associate professor of French and Francophone Studies, is once again bringing a French film festival to Rhodes. An annual event for several years, the program has returned to campus under the name Albertine Cinémathèque French Film Festival and will run from Sept. 17-Oct. 9, 2024.

Newstok Named Executive Director of Spence Wilson Center for Interdisciplinary Humanities
Rhodes College has announced the appointment of Dr. Scott Newstok, professor of English, as its inaugural executive director of the Spence Wilson Center for Interdisciplinary Humanities. Newly established at Rhodes thanks to a generous donation, the center will gather faculty, students, visiting scholars, and community members to address complex global questions through humanistic inquiry. In consultation with a faculty advisory board, the executive director will administer the center and oversee its programming.

Dr. John Bass, associate professor of music and the director of the Mike Curb Institute for Music at Rhodes, will be featured on an episode of More Than the Music, an interview-centered chat show that airs on The Heartland Network. Host Stacy Newman travels to festivals, venues, and studios all over the country to chat with musicians about life, love, and music.
