I’m a technology reporter for The New York Times, covering the crypto industry from San Francisco.
What I Cover
I’ve covered crypto since January 2022. I’ve chronicled the market meltdown that sent a procession of major crypto companies into bankruptcy in 2022, and tracked the string of criminal prosecutions that ensued.
My Background
I started at The Times in 2019, covering the food industry as part of the Times fellowship, a program for journalists early in their careers. Then I worked for Bloomberg News as a courts reporter in Washington and reported long features for Bloomberg Businessweek magazine about everything from a campaign to deprogram extremists to the economic fragility of professional tennis.
Since returning to The Times, I’ve traveled around the world to cover the crypto industry, filing stories from the Bahamas, Singapore, Barcelona, London, New York, Miami, Denver, Austin and Jackson, Tenn. My reporting on the collapse of Sam Bankman-Fried’s company FTX won a 2022 Best in Business award from the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing.
Journalistic Ethics
In accordance with The Times’s ethics policy, I don’t have a direct financial stake in any of the companies I cover. I also don’t own any cryptocurrencies, and I don’t accept money or gifts from the people I cover. You can learn more about the paper’s extensive guidelines here.
