Veteran Hiring

DTMB is dedicated to bridging the gap between civilian and military employment and helping veterans gain and retain employment.

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB) is proud to be recognized as a Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) Gold level Veteran-Friendly Employer committed to military veteran recruitment, training and retention practices. As a Gold level Veteran-Friendly Employer, in 2021, we launched a veterans onboarding program aimed specifically at newly hired individuals who have served in the U.S. armed forces. The program is part of DTMB's efforts to foster a work culture where reservists, and members of the National Guard feel welcomed, included, and valued as DTMB team members.

DTMB Veteran Hiring

DTMB and the State of Michigan recognize the value of veteran recruitment and the unique and strategic skills those with military service bring to any organization. DTMB is committed to tailoring recruitment efforts, training and retention practices to make preferential hiring of veterans a top priority.

Application Tip: Michigan Civil Service Commission Rule 3-8 authorizes veterans' preference for veterans or qualifying spouses who meet minimum qualifications in selection processes for the state classified service. Be sure to register for Veterans Preference

Veterans Resources

Veterans Preference

The State of Michigan Veterans' Preference Program has been expanded to benefit current state employees as well as military retirees, active-duty service members, and eligible spouses.

Service Credit

You can also receive credit for time you spend in active-duty military service with the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, or Coast Guard. There may or may not be a cost to you, depending on whether your active-duty service occurred during (intervening) or outside of (non intervening) your state employment.

Service Waiver for Bachelor Degree Requirement

In a unique initiative that will open up thousands of job opportunities for military veterans, the State of Michigan is waiving its requirement of a bachelor’s degree for many state jobs if the veteran completed at least two years of active federal service in any branch at the rank of E-6 or above.

DTMB Veterans Employee Resource Group

DTMB Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are employee-led, self-directed voluntary groups that offer opportunities to network internally, attract a diverse employee base, provide ideas and solutions, and create opportunities for informal mentoring and professional development based on shared characteristics or life experiences. Our Veteran's ERG is focused on advocating for a community of support for veterans in DTMB and across state government.
