Introduction

Biomarkers play a crucial role in the understanding and management of diseases, enabling clinicians and researchers to diagnose conditions earlier, predict disease outcomes, and develop personalized treatment strategies. Proteins and peptides, as key molecular entities, hold substantial promise in revolutionizing biomarker discovery, especially in the context of complex diseases such as cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and autoimmune diseases. This special issue will aim to present a broad spectrum of studies ranging from retrospective and prospective clinical studies to preclinical research on proteins and peptides as biomarkers.

Keywords

Biomarkers, Protein and Peptide Biomarkers, Disease Management, Neurodegenerative disorders, Cancer, Proteins, Peptides

Sub-topics

    • Biomarker Discovery: Techniques and methodologies for identifying novel protein and peptide biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis of diseases.
    • Data Collection and Analysis: Advancements in large-scale data collection, including omics technologies and computational approaches, to discover, validate, and interpret biomarkers.
    • Preclinical Models and Clinical Translation: Studies investigating the translational potential of biomarkers identified in preclinical studies for clinical application in diagnostics and therapeutics.
    • Biomarkers in Personalized Medicine: The role of biomarkers in precision medicine, particularly in tailoring therapeutics based on individual biomarker profiles.
    • Therapeutics Targeting Biomarkers: Research on peptides and proteins as potential therapeutic agents targeting specific biomarkers, either alone or as part of a combination therapy.
    • Diagnostic Tools Development: Innovation in diagnostic tools and platforms that leverage biomarkers, including point-of-care diagnostics and non-invasive techniques.
