In a decisive address at the 9th Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Regional Forum in Barcelona, EESC President Oliver Röpke highlighted the urgent need for peace in the Middle East and called for a fortified commitment to civil society involvement to promote stability in the Mediterranean region. This year’s forum came at a particularly crucial moment, offering leaders a stage to discuss the intensifying humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean.

President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) Oliver Röpke took center stage at the third annual Forum on the Future of the EU, held at IE University in Madrid on October 26, 2024. This year’s forum, organized by Equipo Europa, brought together over 500 young Europeans to shape a vision for the EU’s future, emphasizing topics like European enlargement and the reformation of EU treaties.

The next Commission must be the enlargement Commission. It is not a question of whether or not to enlarge, but rather how to do it right. This was the focus of the Enlargement High-Level Forum held by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) and attended by EESC President Oliver Röpke, European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit and ministers from EU Member States and Enlargement candidate countries alike.
