Formula Grants

Learn about the various formula grants administered by ED.

Formula grant programs are noncompetitive awards based on a predetermined formula determined by Congress and have no application process. These programs are sometimes referred to as state-administered programs.

 

Rural and Insular Areas

Formula grants that provide technical assistance and support to improve educational outcomes of students in rural and geographically isolated areas.

School Improvement Grants

Formula grants to help schools operate more efficiently.

Formula Grants for Special Populations

Formula grants that aim to improve education outcomes for under-represented groups and other special populations.

Response Formula Grants

Grants that provide SEAs and LEAs with relief funds to address impacts of natural disasters, health emergencies, and other rapid-response events.

Impact Aid Grants

Assists local school districts that have lost property tax revenue due to the presence of tax-exempt Federal property or Federally-connected children.
