SNOMED CT is currently the most comprehensive health terminology worldwide, a constantly growing ontology of preferred terms and their synonyms. The introduction of SNOMED CT in Germany is a building block for establishing semantic interoperability in the electronic exchange of health data.

The purpose of the LOINC database is to facilitate the exchange and pooling of results, such as blood hemoglobin, serum potassium, or vital signs, for clinical care, outcomes management, and research.

The Unified Code for Units of Measure (UCUM) is a code system of standardised codes for measurement units used in medicine and pharmacy.

Alpha-ID-SE is a non-classifying diagnosis coding. In addition to the corresponding ICD-10-GM code, a alpha-ID code is assigned to each diagnosis designation; in the case of rare diseases, the corresponding orpha code is also assigned. Alpha-ID-SE can also be used for medical documentation, as no information is lost through coding.

The Universal Medical Device Nomenclature System (UMDNS) and the European Medical Device Nomenclature (EMDN) are used for the consistent, structured naming of medical devices. The EMDN must be used according to the European regulations for medical devices and in vitro diagnostic medical devices.
