Storm Reid Shares Advice For College Freshmen: ‘Focus’
Storm Reid has been an excellent example of success and hard work. The Gen-Z “It” girl manages to slay as a full-time actress (Missing, Euphoria, A Wrinkle in Time) and still up on time to class as a University of Southern California student. Although TV and film star doesn’t attend an HBCU, when Reid drops gems, it’s best that every student pay attention.
During an exclusive interview with Her Campus, Reid, now a USC senior, shared advice for college freshman.
“Focus,” she told the media outlet. “Sometimes, priorities can get a little mixed up freshman year, but if you go into it knowing it’s going to be scary, you’re not going to have everything down pat. It’s important for freshmen to prioritize school work freshman year rather than the second semester of freshman year or sophomore year. A lot of people think of freshman year as just like, ‘la di da di di’ but they will soon realize it is not the case.”
Elsewhere during the conversation, Reid opened up about how hard it was for her to balance school with her acting career but she doesn’t regret the experience.
“It’s been such a blessing to be able to not only further my education, but college teaches you so much about yourself, about other people — about how to interact with other people,” the star said. “You are put in a point of transition where you have to become an adult, find your own routine, and create your young adult life. It’s been amazing, and I’ve been able to have so many experiences. I’ve met lifelong friends, so I’m grateful for college.”
In related news, earlier this year, Reid won her first Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series for her role in HBO’s The Last of Us.
“I’m still at a loss for words and utterly astounded,” she wrote in an Instagram post at the time. “Thank y’all for the love. Thank you to everyone who has been part of my journey and poured into me. Thank you for allowing me to be y’all’s Riley. I’m forever indebted and honored. I love you, mommy! Matthew 17:20.”
