We want your voting experience to be easy and convenient. The information on this page reviews the steps to marking and returning your ballot and answers some frequently asked questions.

How to Vote Your Ballot

  1. Read the ballot instructions included in your ballot packet.
  2. Review your ballot. Check for races on the back of the ballot as well.
  3. Fill in the oval next to your choice for each race. Use black or blue ink - do not use a felt pen.
  4. Remove the stub along the top of your ballot.
  5. Place your voted ballot in the secrecy sleeve (optional) - the ballot will extend beyond the sleeve.
  6. Place the secrecy sleeve into your return envelope.
  7. If you live in a household with other registered voters, make sure you vote your ballot. Double check to ensure your name is printed on the return envelope.
  8. Sign, date, and seal your return envelope.
  9. Return your ballot in a ballot drop box or mail box.

Additional Information

Accessible Voting

While the vast majority of Snohomish County voters cast their ballot by mail, Snohomish County Elections offers in-person locations for voters who need accessible voting options.

How to Change Your Vote

Draw a line through the entire candidate’s name or measure response. You then have the option of making another choice. Do not use white-out or erase. You can also download a replacement ballot from www.VoteWa.gov or request a replacement ballot by calling Snohomish County Elections at 425-388-3444

How to Add a Name to the Ballot (a “Write-In” Candidate)

If you would like to add a person’s name that is not already printed on the ballot, fill in the oval and write in the person’s name and party affiliation on the line provided.

Under & Over Voting

It is not necessary to vote in every race on your ballot. Your ballot is counted even if you leave some races blank. (This is an under vote.)

Voting more than once for a question or race will cancel that vote. (This is an over vote.) The part of the ballot that is not over voted will be counted.

Getting a New Ballot

If your ballot becomes lost, damaged, or spoiled you can download a replacement ballot from www.VoteWa.gov or request a replacement ballot by calling Snohomish County Elections at 425-388-3444.
