Gov. Noem Appoints Joe Graves as Secretary of Education
Today, Gov. Kristi Noem appointed Joe Graves as Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Education. Joe’s appointment will be effective January 10th. Joe is replacing Secretary Tiffany Sanderson, who has accepted a job as president of Lake Area Technical College.

Storm System Causes Interstate 90 and Interstate 29 Closures for Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023
Due to accumulating heavy snow and sustained high winds causing blizzard-like conditions and extensive drifting, Interstate 90 has been closed (eastbound and westbound) from Chamberlain (exit 265) to Sioux Falls (Marion Road/exit 395) and Interstate 29 (northbound and southbound) has been closed from the I-29/I-90 Interchange in Sioux Falls to Brookings (exit 132) as of 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023.

The third annual Name the Snowplow Contest began in November, before the snow began to fly in earnest. The contest was created by the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) to engage people across the state in winter driving safety awareness.

Gov. Noem Commutes Sentences on Christmas Eve

These seven individuals have had their sentences commuted to parole for the remainder of their sentence term with appropriate precautions in place, which include electronic monitoring, intensive parole supervision plans, and a return to prison for parole violations.
