Harris Shelton Expands Statewide Eminent Domain Practice
Current infrastructure projects throughout Tennessee raise substantial land acquisition concerns
Memphis, Tennessee, June 21, 2022 – Harris Shelton Hanover Walsh, PLLC, one of Memphis’ largest law firms, today announced the expansion of its eminent domain practice area, led by attorneys J. Kevin Walsh and Kannon Conway. The firm has the distinction of having the only Tennessee member and affiliate member of Owners’ Counsel of America, a nationwide network of leading eminent domain lawyers.
For more than 40 years, Walsh has advised clients on eminent domain procedures while working to protect their best interests and constitutional rights. He is the Tennessee member of Owners’ Counsel of America, the only lawyer in the state to hold that position. He frequently shares his experience with others by lecturing on eminent domain issues at various regional and national seminars and is the author of “A Property Owner’s Guide to the Condemnation Process and Just Compensation in the State of Tennessee.”
Conway is a civil litigation attorney with more than 17 years of experience helping clients achieve successful results in disputed matters. He is the current Tennessee affiliate member of Owners’ Counsel of America and regularly contributes to and speaks at events on eminent domain law.
“Tennessee’s infrastructure has continued to expand, and with that comes the potential for the government to take private property for public use,” said Conway. “When that happens, our goal is to ensure private citizens are aware of their rights, as well as appropriately compensated for their property.”
By definition, eminent domain is the power that rests with governmental bodies to take private property for a public purpose. In the Mid-South, projects including the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s widening of Lamar Avenue and Ford’s upcoming Blue Oval City campus in Haywood County have already called for Walsh and Conway to provide legal counsel regarding property rights and rights to damages paid.
“An experienced eminent domain attorney can assist you in protecting your property rights, defend against an unauthorized taking, and ensure that you are receiving just compensation for your property. This specialized area of law is complex and varies from state to state,” said Conway
