I am writing the native ESM/ES2017 new tests with c8 and vanilla-test. Once I am done, I will publish a new major rev.

v9.2.0 will be the last version to have commonjs as the primary use-case. The interface will be staying the same, so if your code is already using ESM, the only thing you will need to do is import node-ipc

It will probably go live this weekend because there are a lot of tests to do.
