In 1983 when an accidental nuclear war almost broke out, Stanislav Yevgrapovich Petrov made the right judgment, preventing the worst that mankind might have returned to the Stone Age at once. I recommend it because it is a good example of how to deal with malfunctions in situations where you have to judge with only computer data.
