The ERC Advanced Grants 2024 call closed for applications on 29 August 2024. These are the preliminary data on the submitted proposals:
- The ERC received 2,534 proposals. This is an increase of 38.5% compared to the 2023 call when 1,829 applications were submitted.
- The highest number of applications were submitted in Physical Sciences and Engineering (1,068), followed by Social Science and Humanities (736), and Life Sciences (730).
- Women submitted 590 proposals (23.3%), slightly lower share than in the 2023 call when 24.6% of the proposals were submitted by female applicants.
In its Work Programme 2024, the ERC earmarked €703 million for an estimated 285 Advanced Grants. The ERC is now starting the evaluation of the proposals. The selected projects will likely be announced in the spring of 2025.
ERC Advanced Grants are designed to Support for excellent researchers at the career stage when they are already established leaders with a recognised track record of research achievements. The principal investigators must demonstrate the ground‐breaking nature, ambition, and feasibility of their research proposal.
