Others want to know how to retain metadata on pictures when exporting from iPhone. I'll share what I do and hopefully others can share additional methods. I use the Image Capture app on MacBook to transfer images from iPhone to MacBook. This retains the EXIF data.
If one doesn't have a MacBook, how does one retain the EXIF data when moving the pictures from an iPhone to some other storage?

Any copy function that is achieved through Finder or non-app keyboard shortcuts, such as Cmd-C, is a standard copy function within MacOS, in my opinion. The Image Capture app provides a different form of copy, one that copies metadata along with the file. It is not executable through Cmd-C, to my knowledge.
It's the same principle. Copy the file and the exif is part of the file.
In my experience, dragging photos from the iPhone to a MacBook (which performs a copy function) without using the Image Capture app will result in a bad Date Taken field, at the least.

I have never had a problem with meta data disappearing.
Generally, the "date taken" Exif data is left intact and the *Mac* file creation metadata is changed.
Keith, would you mind detailing the steps you use to get photos from your iPhone to a computer (and the type of computer)?
I generally don't bother getting images from my phone to the computer, but I just email them when needed.
