Cards disappear from Apple Wallet and there are times when trying to use a card doesn’t work through the Wallet, but does with the physical card

There are two issues. I have tried to find and answer on the net, but to no avail. As I will explain, the supposed fixes don’t relate to my situation.

The first issue is that ALL of my cards keep disappearing from Apple wallet. This has been happening for months and not just when I have updated iOS or there is an available update. I update the software as soon as it is announced. One day, I will use my wallet with no problem, and later in the day, I will go to the wallet to find that none of the same credit cards are available for use.As I said, it happens regularly and since the beginning of the year, I have probably had to re-add all of my cards, at least, 30 times. (As I said, it happens regularly, and almost always rebooting or resetting network setting does not help at all.

At first when it happened, I would go to Settings, then Apple ID to check the “payment & shipping” section where I would find ALL of the same cards available for purchases.

A few months ago, I was shopping and tried to use a card to pay for something. It was declined. Although I knew with 100% certain that there was ample funds in our account, I was in a hurry and tried to use another card. It, too, was denied! Later, I used one of the very same credit cards (in that instance, the actual card) and the transaction went through with no problem. This has happened repeatedly.

The first time that it happened, I was in a hurry and had no time to contact the card issuer. Since then, I have done so and when I tell them what happened, they are as mystified as I am express confusion because (1) they have no record of declining any of my purchases, and (2) my account is noted for use with Apple Pay. They go on to assure me that there are sufficient funds on the card or in my bank account. BTW: This has happened with both debit cards and regular credit cards. It is not a problem with the card issuer, it is an Apple problem and there is no rhyme or reason when it will happen.

I have no problem with my Apple ID. Could it be the wallet app and if so, how do I fix it? I use the wallet for convenience and so that I am not carrying around a bunch of credit cards. I rely on it. If anyone can tell me what is actually causing the problem without attributing it the card issuer, the card not available on Apple Pay, etc. I would greatly appreciate it, because as I have described above they are not the problem.

Thanks and blessings.

Yes I have tried at multiple places over the last 24hrs. A restaurant, a hotel, gas station and a barbershop- all same result. Declined on Apple wallet and then approved using my physical card. As I said Mastercard sees no reason on their end for the issue. I wonder if it had anything to do with the CrowdStrike outage? Ive primarily used tap on Apple wallet for the last couple years without issue.

any suggestions for a remedy would be appreciated.

thankss

I have been experiencing your second problem. I used my Apple wallet to tap ant POS and my Mastercard was declined. I used my physical card and no problem. However using Apple wallet same card for Uber or Skip the Dishes, it works. It seems to be tapping Apple wallet for purchases. I Called Mastercard and they see the decline but can’t explain why. They assume it must a problem with Apple wallet.

Apple Wallet doesn’t approve or decline transactions. Your bank declines or approves transactions. Apple Wallet, via the Secure Enclave and Secure Element, receives data from the merchant and produces a one time use encrypted token. Token is submitted to the merchant, via NFC, and the merchant transmits the data through it payment processor who passes it through the Payment Network Operator and the then to the bank for approval or decline. If Mastercard got the decline, it may have been a merchant issue or a network issue.

The merchant may have the transaction terminal misconfigured or is using a 3rd party verification service to help reduce fraud and card was rejected by merchant.

Have you tried another merchant? Do it fail at all merchants?

Thanks Jeff! I appreciate your responses and took each one into consideration, but as I learned yesterday, after following advice, the cards weren’t there when I tried to use them, and two hours later, without me doing a thing, they were back. It happens regularly and with all of my cards. This began, off and on, last year, after I bought this 📞 and a long time before the crowd strike happening. Now, it is about 75% of the time. When I return home, I am going to wipe it by resetting it to default, again. I appreciate your help.
