Cannot apply for a new apple card

I previously had an Apple Card that was closed because I violated the terms of service. A payment I made failed to go through and I ended up going over the credit limit and the account was closed. I was told I could reapply. All of that happened over a year ago. I have been on the phone with apple and Goldman Sachs so many times. The apple people seem to go out of their way to help and diagnose the problem but eventually I get sent to Goldman Sachs when it can’t be figured out. They are very little help and give up pretty quickly. I cannot apply on the website which acts as if I still have an Apple Card when I sign in and tells me to add it to my wallet. When I try to apply in the wallet app I get the Apple Card services unavailable message. I’d really like to reapply and I’m convinced my old Apple Card account is preventing me from doing that. It still shows in previous cards in the wallet even though the account is closed and paid off over a year ago.

You can create a second (new) Apple ID or change the email associated with your current Apple ID.

You can continue to use your existing email, it just won’t be the login for your Apple ID.

Downside? I’m not sure you’ll still be able to apply either way you go (changing email or creating new Apple ID). I’ve never heard of anyone getting another account after the first one was closed. Your original account is still associated with your social security number and perhaps other identifying information.

In my personal opinion, it’s a risk, but only a soft pull and decline. Basically, no harm, no foul to your credit history/report.

My iPhone is my only device I have. My son has an iPhone and an iPad. He’s on family sharing but the method of payment I have is not the Apple Card. Is there a way that apple or Goldman Sachs can see if the card is on another device? I’m not at home now but I’ll have my son check his devices to see if the Apple Card is in his wallet app on his devices.
