Historic Preservation Commission
Beginning in July 2014, the membership of the Historic Preservation Commission was modified to be to the members of the City's Planning Commission and the Planning Commission's ex officio members, which are the City Manager and the Director of Planning.
When the Historic Preservation Commission meets, it will be at the same time and place as a meeting of the Planning Commission. Identification of commissioners, meeting schedules and agendas for the Historic Preservation Commission will be included with those of the Planning Commission.
Duties and responsibilities of the Historic Preservation Commission include:

Survey and inventory historic, architectural and archeological resources within the community

Serve as the historic preservation review commission for the City for the purpose of qualifying the City as a certified local government to review nominations to the National Register of Historic Places and for the purpose of consulting with federal and state authorities under the National Historic Preservation Act

Advise other officials and City Departments regarding identification and protection of local historic and archeological resources and historic preservation planning

Support the enforcement of the Alaska Historic Preservation Act

Make recommendations to the City Council for the Unalaska Register of Historic Places
