What is UNDRIP?

- UNDRIP is the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. These rights were officially recognized on September 13th, 2007, and eventually adopted by a majority of states across the world, including Finland, Brazil, Philippines, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States, just to name a few. We're going to talk about the central ideas of UNDRIP and how your workplace might adopt these in support of Indigenous inclusion. UNDRIP is the result of decades of deliberation and activism for the protection of Indigenous Peoples' rights around the globe. According to Dr. Duane Champagne at the University of Los Angeles, people worked on the declaration for over 30 years, involving the participation of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Many organizations look for a roadmap or framework to support inclusion of Indigenous Peoples and strengthen working relationships. This is where UNDRIP comes in.
