Create a new project

- [Instructor] Now that we know what a project is, let's take a look at how to create one. The easiest way to do this is to roll your mouse over the Project tab in the navigation bar, and here you'll see any existing projects, which you can jump to from here. But down here at the bottom, I'll select Create New. And that brings us to a page where we can begin to add details to our project. So let's say, for example, that I need to hire someone for a sales manager job in our San Francisco offices. So the first thing I need to do is name my project. I'll call this Sales Manager dash SF. Next, you can enter a project description. This is optional, but I do recommend describing the position you're filling and what you're looking for. This makes sure that anyone in your team will also know what this project is about. We're just going to skip that for now since this is just an example. Next we have the who are you trying to hire section. So here we can enter the job title of Sales Manager, and you can see that pops up. So I can just select it from here. Next, we have the location. Again, these fields are optional, but it's a good idea to fill them in if you have the information so potential candidates will know as much about the position as possible. So I'll start typing San Francisco, and I'll select San Francisco Bay Area. Now, you might have noticed that as I enter these details we have this box on the right hand side that says get Customized Talent Insights. And this gives you insights into how many candidates fit the criteria that you're adding here. For example, it's telling us that 5.9 million people have that specific job title, 34,000 in a specific location, and 34,000 meet those requirements so far. These numbers will continue to update as you add more information about the position. So for the seniority level, let's say this is a mid senior level. And now that update's basically telling me there are 7,500 people who meet the requirements. Now, down here at the bottom, we can decide if we want the project to be private or public. If it's private, then only members of this particular project will be able to see it. Below that is public, meaning all members of your recruiter license will be able to see it. Now, one thing to note with private is that if you do make it private now, you can go back and invite people later. You might want to do this if you know you'll need to keep working on the project before making it public. Now, we could click Create Project at this point, but before doing that, I can add a job post, and we'll take a look at how to do that later. If you're not ready to do that at this stage, that's completely fine. I'm going to go ahead and click on Create Project for now. And now we have our project. You can see its title here at the top of the screen. And Pipeline is currently selected and we see it says we don't have any candidates in here yet. But remember, the pipeline is where people go once you mark that you're interested in them as a candidate. So obviously we don't have anybody in here yet because we just created it. But here on the top left, if we click Talent Pool, this is where you'll find the candidates that LinkedIn identifies as good potential candidates based on the filters you've already entered. I can see stats like how many of these people have labeled their accounts open to work. I can even look for internal candidates in my organization if we want to do some internal mobility hiring. We'll come back to this area later. But now, if I go back to my Recruiter homepage, we see the project we just created right here. Now, if you want your projects to stay at the top of the list, you can star them. So for example, if I click the star here next to Content Manager and I reload the page, you can see that gets moved to the top of the list. But maybe in this case, I want to unstar that and make Sales Manager at the top of the list. Now, you can star both of them if you wanted to, but in this case, I'll just keep sales manager starred and refresh the page. And now it's back at the top of the list. So it's that easy to create a project in Recruiter, which is something you definitely should do so you can take advantage of all the tools and customizations that projects provide.
