From the course: Learning Jira (Cloud Edition)

What is Jira?

Jira is software for issue tracking, bug tracking, and project management. It digitizes your wall of sticky notes. Jira helps teams of all types manage their work. When Jira was first released in 2002, it was purely for software development. But these days, all kinds of teams like legal, marketing, HR, and IT use Jira. Jira is made by a company called Atlassian who makes other popular tools like Confluence, a wiki, and collaboration portal, and development tools like Bamboo and Bitbucket. Atlassian tools all connect to each other. For example, you can show real-time Jira information on Confluence pages. In the example, the Jira issue is linked to a related confluence page. Jira also integrates with third-party tools like the Slack chat application or the Salesforce CRM. For example, you can get Jira issue notifications in your team's chat room.
