Director of Financial Reporting

A recently public medical device and pharmaceutical company is looking to add a Director of Financial Reporting to their growing team due to an upcoming retirement. The company is continuing to enhance their financial reporting, controls and technical accounting function and add staff to support their needs and continued business growth. The company grew over 50% year over year and have added a number of Senior leaders from notable organizations to guide their long-term goal of being a $1bill+ market cap company. The role will sit in the Northern Suburbs of Chicago with a flexible hybrid in-office set up. Leadership team is super positive and friendly and seems to be a tight knit team. This person will receive stock in the company so can also take part in the organization’s success.


Role:

The Director of Financial Reporting will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s financial reporting, including quarterly and annual SEC filings, debt reporting, and disclosures for complex financial issues such as warrants, stock compensation, and derivatives. This position will also play a key role in ensuring compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, enhancing internal controls over financial reporting, and supporting the company’s overall financial integrity.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation and filing of all quarterly and annual SEC reports, including 10-Qs, 10-Ks, and 8-Ks
  • Oversee disclosures for complex financial transactions, including warrants, stock compensation, and derivatives
  • Ensure accurate and timely debt reporting
  • Manage the company’s SOX compliance efforts, including the design, implementation, and maintenance of effective internal controls over financial reporting
  • Collaborate closely with other members of the accounting and leadership team to support overall financial strategy and decision-making
  • Manage and mentor one direct report, providing guidance and support in their professional development
  • Conduct regular reviews and assessments of financial controls to identify areas for improvement and ensure ongoing compliance with SOX
  • Stay current with SEC regulations, accounting standards, and industry best practices to ensure compliance and optimize financial reporting processes


Requirements:

  • CPA required
  • Significant experience in SEC reporting, preferably with a background from a notable public accounting firm auditing publicly traded clients
  • In-house corporate experience with a publicly traded company is highly preferred
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, particularly in SEC reporting, SOX compliance, and accounting for complex financial instruments
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor staff
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and internal controls
  • Local to Chicago area
