Medical Science Liaison

Reporting to a Senior Director in the Medical Affairs department, Syros Pharmaceuticals is seeking a field-based Medical Science Liaison (MSL) located in the northeast, north-central, or south-central US regions to represent Syros and our late-stage clinical program.

The MSL will cultivate and maintain long-term professional relationships, representing Syros with investigators, thought leaders, pathologists and other stakeholders specializing in the therapeutic area of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) to enhance awareness of Syros’ disease area, clinical trial programs, and evolving data. The MSL will support Syros’ advancing biopharmaceutical clinical development pipeline programs by delivering clinical, scientific, and technical education to the Hematology community. In addition, the MSL will disseminate their advanced product knowledge in their assigned geographic region as a member of a broader MSL team covering the entire US, to assure implementation of Syros’ corporate, scientific, and clinical strategies with thought leaders within academic, clinical, and healthcare organizations. These scientific exchanges will support and/or expand current therapeutic concepts, as well as ensure the safe and effective utilization of Syros product(s) following approval.

The MSL will also support Syros at scientific congresses and be responsible for supporting research initiatives including investigator-sponsored studies. They will also participate in and contribute to projects and initiatives that increase the value and productivity of the Medical Affairs team.

Responsibilities

This position serves as a primary field-based medical liaison in providing medical information, scientific exchange, and trial support to external/internal stakeholders and investigators. This position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to establish a network within the relevant scientific community.

  • Establish Syros as a leading global company committed to the diagnosis and treatment of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS)
  • Maintain clinical, scientific, and technical expertise in the therapeutic area of MDS including thorough awareness of emerging therapies and the evolving treatment landscape
  • Facilitate research collaborations, as needed, with qualified investigators including helping identify, establish, and maintain such collaborations to keep Syros trials top-of-mind
  • Collaborate with medical affairs, clinical development, and commercial colleagues in a compliant manner, and serve as a Syros resource to healthcare providers (HCPs), pathologists, academic centers, and large group practices
  • Develop and track investigator and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) engagement plans – identify, develop, and maintain long-term collaborative relationships with investigators and KOLs within assigned region
  • Participate in medical and scientific exchanges with the medical/ scientific community and support advisory boards meetings
  • Provide medical/ clinical teams with feedback and insights from interactions with KOLs and investigators
  • Respond to and document unsolicited requests for information on Syros products and clinical programs
  • Represent Syros at scientific congresses, staff scientific exhibits, and cover other meeting related activities
  • Support Syros Investigator-Initiated Study programs (IST) through the disseminating of areas of interests, facilitating submission of letters of intent, and providing background concept information during IST committee review
  • Engage in speaker identification, training, and evaluation
  • Collaborate with Market Access and Commercial colleagues for thought leader and institutional engagement when appropriate
  • Adhere to corporate SOPs and ensure vigilant compliance with relevant legal and regulatory guidelines governing scientific interactions with physicians and healthcare professionals across all activities, including those related to clinical trials, scientific interactions with internal and external groups, and responses to unsolicited request for medical/ scientific information

Minimum Qualifications

  • A doctorate degree (Pharm D, PhD or MD)
  • A minimum of 5 years previous MSL experience
  • Strong scientific background in hematology. Experience in the therapeutic area of Myeloid Dysplastic Syndromes (MDS) or Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is highly preferred
  • Ability to travel, locally and regionally, up to 50% with overnight stays (e.g., investigator meetings, site locations, internal meetings, medical meetings and congresses, training)
  • Knowledge of local regulatory requirements and Pharmaceutical Association Code, including regulations governing compliant scientific exchange
  • Valid driver’s license
