Description

The Office of Special Prosecutions is an elite unit within the Criminal Division of the Kentucky Office of the Attorney General. We are seeking a dynamic attorney to join our team in Louisville.

The selected candidate will prosecute violent felony cases including, nonfatal shootings, convicted felons in possession of firearms and other violent crimes. The cases will be prosecuted as part of the Office’s Louisville Violent Crime Reduction Initiative, a partnership with the Jefferson County Commonwealth’s Attorney, to reduce violent crimes committed in Louisville. There may be occasional travel to other parts of the Commonwealth for various other types of felony prosecutions.

Working as a member of the Office of Special Prosecutions, the selected candidate will be responsible for working complex cases from the investigation to the prosecution. The ideal candidate possesses trial experience, displays strong organizational skills, and is self-motivated and directed. This person must be comfortable working with other attorneys, police agencies, victim advocates, crime victims and their families.

Responsibilities Will Include

  • Prosecution of criminal cases in Jefferson County, Kentucky;
  • Providing assistance to local prosecutors;
  • Responding to requests from the general public for information regarding legal issues;
  • Representing the Commonwealth on appellate matters arising during the course of criminal cases; and
  • Conducting outreach and training in the community.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Attention to detail;
  • Litigation experience, preferably jury trial experience;
  • Knowledge of criminal law statutes;
  • Strong analytical ability;
  • Organizational skills;
  • A willingness to work with a team; and
  • Be self-motivated.

Preferred skill: Three years of experience as a licensed attorney in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, with previous experience in the practice of criminal law.
