    Purpose

    The Assistant Director of Development reports to the Executive Director/Assistant Dean of Development and oversees daily operations of the College of Fine Arts development office, including supervising administrative staff, managing special projects, and managing all aspects of the college’s events including the Fine Arts Advisory Council. This position is responsible for maintaining the office’s high standards of customer service while maximizing productivity and efficiency.

    Responsibilities

    • Project Management: Works closely with the Executive Director/Assistant Dean of Development to coordinate and manage all aspects of the 150- member Advisory Council. Oversees membership lifecycle process, including nominations, dues solicitation, and tracking terms of service. Works closely with the Executive Director/Assistant Dean of Development on special projects as needed. Maintains open communication and conducts regular and ad-hoc project reviews with project team, sponsors, and clients.
    • Staff Manager: Hires, trains, and manages the Development office’s administrative team to meet or exceed day-to-day needs and organizational goals. Maintains strong communication with the team and assists regularly with questions and problem-solving. Responsible for setting performance expectations and performance reviews.
    • Event Management: Plans and executes large scale in-person and virtual meetings, including the annual Advisory Council fall and spring meetings. Plans and executes the biannual Doty Award Dinner and other events as needed.
    • Development Operations: Working closely with the administrative staff, oversees daily operations of the development office in accordance with college and TEXAS Development policies and procedures, including gift processing and reporting, annual fund, event planning, endowment compliance, prospect research, and donor relations. Serves as liaison for gift officers by answering questions, managing requests, and incorporating feedback. Tracks budgets and monitors office spending. Maintains documentation of Development office policies and procedures.
    • Team Communicator: Provides excellent customer service to internal and external constituents concerning COFA development operations. Responsible for Advisory Council member communications through the council website, emails, and print materials. Coordinates business requests from Executive Director and Assistant Dean for Development.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience at the Development Specialist or manager level, or equivalent.
    • Project management experience including planning, organizing, and staffing significant short- and long-term projects.
    • Experience with staff management skills, implementing expectations and accountability.
    • Experience organizing and directing special events.
    • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Demonstrates the following competencies: Effective Communications, Initiative, Managing Multiple Priorities, Planning, Tactical and Strategic, Accuracy and Attention to Detail, Tolerance for Ambiguity and Stress, Teamwork, Service Excellence.


    Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master’s degree
    • More than three years of experience at the Development Specialist or manager level, or equivalent.
    • Demonstrated experience hiring, training, and managing administrative staff.
    • Demonstrated experience organizing and directing large and complex special events.
    • Development experience working at a college or university
    • Experience using a donor database or similar customer relationship management system.
    • Background or interest in the visual and/or performing arts. Familiarity with fundraising/development.
    • Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign or Photoshop
    • Working knowledge of UT Austin's policies and procedures. Experience with UT’s VIP donor database and DEFINE system.


    Driving Required

    This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

    Salary

    $60,000+, depending on qualifications

    Work Shift

    M-F, 8am – 5pm, Occasional evening and weekend work, as needed, during special events.

    Employment Eligibility:

    Retirement Plan Eligibility:

    The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
