JURISolutions is working with our government client in DC to identify a qualified FOIA Attorney for a long-term contract providing support to the FOIA division. This is a fully remote opportunity.


Fundamental tasks include:

  • Providing general consulting services to the FOIA Office on all FOIA-related laws, regulations, and guidance.
  • Assisting the FOIA Office to revise web-based policies, and to review third-party websites and applications to ensure compliance with applicable requirements;
  • Updating the FOIA Offie about changes to relevant laws and guidance, as well and relevant news articles; and
  • Assisting with the tracking of remediation of audit findings, where applicable.
  • Prepares draft memoranda, guidance, pleadings, and/or other internal and external communications to convey the findings, advice, and/or positions of the FOIA Office, as required.
  • Conducts well-documented and supportable legal research addressing FOIA issues as they arise
  • Assists the FOIA Office in developing and drafting guidance with respect to compliance with prevailing laws, rules, regulations and other authorities governing federal FOIA programs
  • Reviews, updates, and drafts policies, procedures, and related documents relevant to the Agency’s FOIA program as required
  • Assists the FOIA Office in audit remediation as required


Qualifications:


Requires JD and active bar admission in any U.S state or territory.

Experience with Nuix Investigate, Relativity, and/or other eDiscovery and document review tools strongly desired.

Experience processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

Demonstrated experience and knowledge of FOIA rules and regulations; applying exemptions

Must have proficient legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions, and memorandum, and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research.

Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge, and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.


Our compensation is based on a number of factors, including market location, and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role offers a range of competitive pay rates starting at $70 per hour and a benefits package that includes PTO, holiday pay, optional health benefits, 401K and more.
