The company also operates AMC Studios, our in-house studio, production, and distribution operation behind acclaimed and fan-favorite originals including The Walking Dead Universe and the Anne Rice Immortal Universe, and AMC Networks International, our international programming business.

We are currently seeking a VP - Acquisitions and Productions to join our Acquisitions based in our Santa Monica, CA.

Job Summary

The AMC Networks Film Group is looking for a new VP of Acquisitions and Productions to help oversee the creative vision for its IFC Films label. As one of the leading theatrical and ancillary distributors of independent cinema, IFC is looking for a strategic thinker to help sculpt the go forward strategy through taste and relationships. IFC Films has been a disruptor and innovator in the independent film space both in the movies it has released but also in the ways it has released them.

Additional to a history of acquiring successful films and having a deep understanding of the correlating economics, this candidate should have a depth of experience working across departments and disciplines in a collaborative fashion. Looking for a team player who understands how to manage a team, but also work within a larger organization. The right candidate is someone with a keen eye for quality filmmaking, skill and experience as a negotiator, with a lot of front-line experience and a willingness to travel.

The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for film and a deep understanding of film history. Detailed understanding of film windows and a holistic perspective on the evolution and changes sweeping the distribution landscape is a must. Experience liaising films through the distribution pipeline by guiding the development, packaging, production, delivery, marketing, publicity and distribution of a film.

Cross functionality is necessary as this person should be work well with others and understand the role IFC Films plays in a larger media company. Looking for a culture builder who puts the team first and understands the value of a collaboration. Seeking someone with a keen understanding of profitability and expenses related to film distribution on a granular level.

Job Responsibilities

  • Track and identify scripts, features and IP for acquisition and production.
  • Oversee all aspects of managing the IFC Films acquisitions team as well as collaborating with stakeholders internally and externally to liaise films through the distribution, marketing, and delivery pipeline.
  • Creative management of filmmakers and creators in the development, production, finishing and release of up to 30 feature films a year.
  • Develop relationships with creative community, producers and sales agencies to identify and source content.
  • Draft deals and work extensively with the legal team to negotiate all aspects of licensing and exploitation agreements.
  • Extensive screening of films, script reading, and travel to film festivals.
  • Creation of departmental budgets for travel, marketing, publicity and distribution as well as developing detailed profit and loss statements.
  • Oversee the execution of all aspects of a deal by coordinating with the relevant teams to ensure a successful physical and legal delivery as well marketing compliance.
  • Plan and execute a strategy across film festivals and markets by organizing attendance and strategies.


QUALIFICATIONS (Required & Preferred)

  • Minimum 10 years film acquisitions experience.
  • Relationships with international + domestic sales agents, filmmakers, festival programmers, producers, and financiers required.
  • Experience with negotiating rights sets, windows, agreements.
  • Great communicator

The base compensation range for this position is $140,000 to $165,000 commensurate with experience.
