Instructional Technologist (Hybrid-eligible)

Wilson College is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Instructional Technologist. Informed by a knowledge of pedagogical best practices, as well as current technologies, the Instructional Technologist will collaborate with staff and faculty colleagues to design high quality instructional materials and learning opportunities to enhance online, blended, and onsite technology-enhanced courses and events. These collaborations may be individual consultations or larger programmatic efforts that work with groups of faculty members. Additionally, this individual supports educational technology software and hardware as well as provides direct audio-visual (AV) support for campus events.

Essential Functions

  • Work with the Director of Academic Technology to achieve department objectives including:
  • Designs and develops engaging, effective learning experiences which may be face-to-face, hybrid, HyFlex, and/or online.
  • Designs, develops, organizes, maintains, and consults on instructional materials, activities, curricula, and assessment resources in accordance with current pedagogical practices, cognitive/learning science, and design tools and methods.
  • Research, design, and/or acquire learning resources, technologies, materials, and/or processes to support learning.
  • Provides training and technical support directly to learners in settings such as classrooms, labs, clinics, and distance learning mediums.
  • Provide direct support for educational, informational, and campus events requiring A/V and web conferencing technology.
  • Administrates educational software platforms, including learning management systems, video recording platforms, designs software, and accessibility software.
  • Provides consultation, training, and/or support for learning technology tools and platforms.
  • Analyzes, tests, troubleshoots, resolves issues, and provides feedback regarding learning technologies.
  • Collects, organizes, interprets, and disseminates data to identify instructional program needs and enhance effectiveness.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers faculty development and engagement programs and activities.
  • Represent the College by participation in professional development, conferences, and organizations.

Work Independently To

  • Engage with faculty to support the design or redesign of courses or course components.
  • Assist faculty to ensure course materials meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for accessibility.
  • Encourage faculty to use active learning strategies to enhance interaction, engagement, social presence, and build a sense of community in courses of all modalities.
  • Provide support to faculty and students in the use of educational technology tools such as learning management systems, video recording platforms, designs software, and accessibility software.
  • Modify or create tutorials provided to faculty and students for educational technology tools.
  • Develop other training materials for faculty, staff and students as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competency

  • Understanding of Adult Learning Theory
  • In-depth knowledge of educational technology, instructional design, higher ed academic technology methods and tools
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems and other educational technologies. Direct experience with the following are preferred: Canvas, Yuja, Zoom, Office 365

Position Type And Expected Hours Of Work

  • This is a full-time position and will typically work Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Some evening and weekend support will be required with hours adjusted as needed.
  • Position is onsite, with possibility of hybrid work schedule.

Travel

  • Some travel for professional conferences, training and for support of any off-site locations.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, or related discipline. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Preferred two to three years of experience with instructional design and/or online teaching.
