Vice President Operations

Appleton Finn are partnered with a Top 10 ENR general contractor in the Chicagoland region seeking a Senior Executive level candidate for the companies operations. This includes managing multiple large-scale civil infrastructure projects exceed a complete value of $1B+, ensuring operational efficiency, driving strategic growth, and maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and profitability. The VP of Operations reports directly to the CEO or President and plays a critical role in shaping the company’s long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership:

• Lead and manage the company’s day-to-day operations, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
• Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of heavy civil construction projects, including highways, bridges, tunnels, water/wastewater facilities, and other infrastructure projects.
• Implement and maintain operational processes and procedures that drive efficiency and effectiveness across all projects.

Project Management

• Provide strategic direction and support to project managers and site teams, ensuring alignment with company goals.
• Review project plans, budgets, schedules, and performance metrics, making necessary adjustments to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Resolve escalated issues related to project scope, timeline, or budget, while maintaining strong client relationships.

Financial Oversight:

• Develop and manage the operations budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and profitability.
• Monitor financial performance of projects, identifying areas for cost savings and operational improvements.
• Collaborate with the finance team to prepare financial reports, forecasts, and strategic plans.

Business Development:

• Support the business development team in identifying and pursuing new project opportunities.
• Build and maintain relationships with key clients, government agencies, and industry stakeholders.
• Participate in contract negotiations, ensuring favourable terms that align with the company’s operational capabilities and strategic objectives.

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. An MBA or advanced degree is preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum of 12 years of experience in the construction industry, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within heavy civil construction.
• Proven track record of managing large-scale civil infrastructure projects, particularly in urban environments.

Skills:

• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and drive results.
• In-depth knowledge of construction operations, project management, and financial management.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.

Compensation

• Competitive salary exceeding $300k per annum, including performance-based bonuses, health insurance, retirement plans, and other executive-level perks.
