Deputy CEO of Real Estate

Position Summary

The Deputy CEO—Real Estate (DCREO) is a collaborative leader who stewards the Neighborhood and Commercial Development (NCD) team and oversees the organization’s real estate portfolio. This role is instrumental in aligning real estate strategy with the organization’s overall mission and goals. The DCREO fosters a collaborative and innovative culture within the NCD team, driving successful project development and execution.

In partnership with the NCD team, the DCREO is responsible for maximizing the value of real estate assets while ensuring they support the organization’s strategic objectives. This includes overseeing Real Estate Development, Asset Management and Property Operations, and Portfolio Strategy and performance.

The DCREO is expected to empower the NCD team to make informed decisions and contribute to the organization's success. By fostering open communication, shared decision-making, and a focus on continuous improvement, the DCREO will create a high-performing team capable of adapting to changing market conditions and achieving organizational goals.

This role demands high expertise in real estate strategy, development, property management, sustainability, and relationship management. The DCREO is a crucial contributor to the organization's success, driving value creation through effective real estate management and investment.

Key Role Responsibilities

Portfolio Strategy & Development

  • Identify and secure real estate assets that support the organization's long-term growth and financial objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (P&F, CEO, COO, CFO, and CPO) to understand strategic requirements and identify real estate needs that propel the organization's long-term vision.

Project Management & Execution

  • Steward all aspects of real estate development projects, ensuring successful completion on time, within budget, and meeting quality standards.
  • Deliver successful projects on time, within budget, and meeting quality standards.

Property Management & Optimization

  • Support the NCD team in implementing a comprehensive property management strategy that maximizes return on investment through effective tenant relations, lease management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support the NCD team to maximize return on investment from existing assets through effective tenant relations, lease management, and regulatory compliance.

Sustainability & Innovation

  • Integrate environmentally conscious practices into real estate operations to reduce environmental impact and improve efficiency.
  • Champion exploring innovative development strategies to optimize the real estate portfolio for long-term value.

Marketing & Relationship Management

  • Support marketing and relationship-building efforts to attract new tenants, investors, and developers and assist in securing new opportunities for the organization.
  • Secure new opportunities in partnership with the P&F/CEO and NCD team by leading marketing and relationship-building efforts to attract new tenants, investors, and developers.

Performance Management

  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of real estate initiatives and implement continuous improvement strategies.
  • Measure and optimize performance by tracking KPIs and implementing continuous improvement strategies.

Teamwork & Strategic Alignment

  • Collaborate across teams to ensure seamless integration between real estate activities, communication, and operational processes.
  • Orchestrate a unified approach by collaborating across teams to ensure seamless integration.
  • Align with strategic goals by collaborating with the CEO, Team Leads, and other senior executives to translate strategic goals into actionable real estate portfolio plans and ensure they contribute to overall success.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Deep understanding of the organization's mission, vision, and strategic goals and comprehensive knowledge of stakeholder experience best practices.
  • Working understanding of marketing, communications, operations, and project management principles, with familiarity with relevant industry trends and best practices.
  • Exceptional communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and manage high-performing teams.
  • Strategic planning and execution skills combined with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to champion positive stakeholder experiences, make informed decisions within delegated authority, and navigate complex environments while managing competing priorities.
  • A talent for fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, with the ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in a relevant field a plus.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a leadership role, preferably within the non-profit sector.
  • Proven track record of success in developing and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Experience in building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated understanding of stakeholder experience best practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
