Summary/Objective

Reporting to the Director of People and Culture, the HR Business Partner (HRBP) provides people-related strategic and tactical support to our teams on matters including employee relations, coaching, performance management, attendance and leaves, policies, recognition, equity and inclusion, communications, and other. This role formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that work on setting priorities, driving values, and delivering business results.

This role with partner with assigned leaders to develop and execute business goals that directly support and enable business objectives and that set the tone for healthy long-term employee relationships and employee experience, including:

  • Build partnerships with diverse business leaders and employees, providing expert HR guidance and resources to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention, both proactively and in need. Actively engage with managers and teams at assigned multiple locations.
  • Provide policy interpretation, coaching, counsel, guidance, and training support to leaders to ensure HR policies are consistently administered.
  • Provide conflict resolution to resolve complex employee relations issues and complaints involving working conditions and discrimination, policy violations, and other including:
  • Respond promptly to employee concerns, issues, or questions.
  • Manage employee relations and address conflicts to closure.
  • Assess risks
  • Conduct investigations as needed
  • Make recommendations to leadership for effective resolution and/or improvements.
  • Conduct complex investigations and provide guidance on policies, procedure, and problem resolution.
  • Inform the Director of People and Culture on all serious HR related matters that can adversely impact the organization as needed.
  • Prepare communications and correspondence, coordinate submissions and file.
  • Ensure sufficient documentation is provided and filed.
  • Maintain and track data and trends to proactively inform leadership of potential employee support issues.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams and/or work independently on a variety of projects.
  • Assist in administering performance management process including evaluations, goal setting, feedback sessions, career development, and reviewing and approving corrective actions and performance improvement plans (PIP).
  • Assist with defining job roles and job descriptions.

  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements surrounding OSHA, EEO, ADA, FLSA, FMLA, and all other HR guidelines set forth by federal, state, local governments, and the company. Keep abreast of industry trends and employment legislation and attend periodic trainings.
  • Apply experience and judgement to provide candid, unbiased coaching and counseling to improve individual and team performance and enhance people leader effectiveness.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment. Requires routine retail store and warehouse visits that operate in a retail or warehouse environment.

Physical Demand

Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently, safely, and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Travel

  • This is a full-time position.
  • Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., however some flexibility of the schedule is permissible with supervisor approval.
  • Occasional night-time or weekend work may be expected to meet the needs of the role.
  • Day-time travel within the MoKan region is required.
  • Overnight travel is not expected and limited by need and/or approval.


Qualifications

The role will be a proven leader with the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management or related discipline preferred. Experience will be considered in lieu of education.
  • PHR/SPHR preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience in an HR role in a business partner capacity effectively supporting multilocations.
  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience providing HR feedback direct to employees, both exempt and non-exempt, including coaching and counseling to improve individual and team performance to enhance leader effectiveness.
  • A minimum of 2 years of work experience with successful results and responsibility of independently handling and upholding employee relations, complaints and conflict resolution, investigations, policy and risk adherence, and employment laws (multi-state experience preferred).
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple, changing priorities in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency while balancing multiple projects.
  • Proven experience independently managing time and responsibilities, by effectively assessing and prioritizing the needs and level of urgency and escalations.
  • Proven level of integrity, confidentiality, discretion, attention to detail and collaborative nature.
  • Proven ability to build trusted, confidential relationships with key stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven business maturity and strong emotional intelligence to coach, develop, influence and counsel managers and employees.
  • Self-directed and self-motivated with the ability to take initiative in identifying and anticipating client needs.
  • Availability to conduct on-site visits, as necessary, including evening shifts and weekends on a routine basis as required to support a business open 7am – 8pm, 7 days a week.

  • Proficiency in HRIS/HCM systems; experience with Paycor is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills in the use of the Microsoft Office suite
  • Desire to serve in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license, good driving record, current automobile insurance with reliable transportation and ability to travel within the MoKan region.
