We seek a dynamic Vice President of Growth to lead and inspire our global team of high performing sales and marketing professionals. This highly visible, hands-on leader oversees a team of 10+ professionals spread across the USA and the UK, and has primary responsibility for maintaining and increasing our sales, mainly to enterprise and mid-sized nonprofits. The VP also is also a member of our 6-person Leadership team, helping to guide company strategy and continue strengthening our positive employee culture.

Building on our reputation for powerful, flexible technology and exceptional technical support, our VP of Growth will take our sales and marketing to the next level, focusing especially on improving our lead generation. At the same time, our Growth VP will ensure that we meet the highest standards for successfully responding to RFPs, conducting effective sales discovery, holding software demos, providing sales enablement resources, and forging strong relationships with the amazing organizations that choose our platform to advance their vital missions.

Reporting to our President and COO, the VP of Growth will collaborate to identify company-wide opportunities for innovation – and help execute these opportunities. Strategic leadership is crucial, with responsibilities that include contributing to our technology roadmap prioritization, and aligning our sales and marketing activities with organization-wide goals. Optimizing our sales and marketing tools, fostering the leadership and professional development of our team members, and partnering with our Product and Client Success teams are all essential aspects of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Directly supervise six B2B sales professionals, with an extended team of three others. You will support, mentor and inspire your team with warmth, humor, discipline and empathy, giving them opportunities for professional development while challenging them to perform at a high level.
  • Sales Results: Develop and commit to ambitious but achievable annual team sales quotas, and then pull out the stops to meet or exceed them. You will sometimes get personally involved to create opportunities and help your salespeople push deals forward and close them – especially with large or strategically valuable prospects.
  • Marketing Results: Oversee our B2B marketing team in delivering and scaling integrated demand gen programs, and Account Based Marketing activities, to capture and nurture qualified sales leads, and help build our sales pipeline. Working with the Growth Marketing Director, you will determine which campaigns and initiatives to test, and track ROI relentlessly to identify the optimal mix of digital advertising, SEO, webinars, events and social media promotion to support our sales.
  • Company-wide Collaboration. Foster teamwork between the Growth team and other teams in the company, especially with the Client Success and Product teams. Filter and summarize the market feedback that your team gathers, including signals from prospects about new functions that we should add to our platform. Provide occasional advice and support to the Client Success team in upsell situations and seek opportunities to craft marketing content and campaigns that serve both the Growth team’s interests and the product marketing goals of our Client Success team.
  • People Development: Spearhead individual career progress plans for your team members, fostering their subject matter expertise, skills development and professional growth. Lead initiatives focused on succession planning, resource allocation and leadership development. Foster a culture of excellence and continuous learning within your team and across our company.
  • Partner Management: Working with the Director of Client and Partner Experience, help push our Partner program forward by cultivating new relationships and opportunities (e.g. with web development agencies and technology firms), while strengthening existing partner relationships that drive valuable business referrals.
  • Representing Engaging Networks: At EN-sponsored events and at industry events, represent our company capably and compellingly, to help us build awareness of our company, our team, our clients and our constantly improving technology.
  • Sector Expertise. Ensure that we always have a firm grasp on emerging nonprofit needs and goals, and a detailed understanding of changes in our competitive landscape, especially in the USA, but also in the Canada, UK and international markets. When valuable opportunities arise, you will help us to seize them. When threats arise, you will help lead us in formulating a competitive response, including new pricing strategies as needed.
  • Company Leadership: As a member of our company’s 6-person Leadership Team, help guide overall company direction and business strategy, and play a key role in building and enhancing our unique employee culture, ensuring that Engaging Networks continues to be a great place to work. Help us develop and execute strategies related to product enhancement, account management, technical support and data privacy and security.
  • Other Responsibilities. Manage a departmental budget, presenting it for approval each year and ensuring that we stick to it, unless exceptions are granted. Decide which nonprofit sector conferences the Growth team will participate in, and at which levels. Oversee negotiation of client contracts as needed. Oversee Growth team members’ commissions payout.

Requirements

  • At least eight (8) years of selling and/or marketing technology products or services – preferably SaaS tools – to nonprofit organizations
  • At least five (5) years of experience leading and building a Sales and/or Marketing team
  • A firm grasp of Sales and Marketing as disciplines, i.e. you understand account based marketing, prospecting, funnels, lead nurturing, pipelines, sales enablement, and how to craft technology solutions that meet or exceed clients’ actual needs. In sales meetings and demo’s, you are good at “reading the room”
  • Total integrity and honesty in dealing with clients, partners and co-workers
  • Strong listening skills, maturity and empathy for others – a high “EQ”
  • You write, speak and present exceptionally well, including public speaking at industry events, and you have strong networking skills
  • You are a proven, can-do problem solver
  • You can juggle multiple projects with minimal oversight
  • You are enthusiastic about technology, and helping mission-driven organizations to use it. You are good at translating “geek-speak” for non-tech audiences
  • You have strong strategic business vision, with proven experience in improving processes that drive efficiencies and impact
  • You take the initiative – you don’t sit back and wait for instructions. You stay cool under pressure, with excellent decision-making ability
  • You admit mistakes when they happen, and learn from them
  • You are able to travel to meetings with prospects, partners and co-workers, and to represent EN at major industry conferences, as well as at the three EN Community Conference events that we host each year in Washington, DC, London and Toronto

Bonus Points

  • You have an established network of valuable contacts in the nonprofit sector
  • You have direct experience with Engaging Networks or other similar eCRM / digital engagement platforms
  • You are good at analyzing data and understanding performance/operations metrics
  • You have experience using Salesforce CRM, Hubspot and similar sales and marketing tools

Travel

You will travel 30 to 40 days per year, possibly less if you live near Washington, DC

Location

The ideal candidate will be based in the Washington, DC area, or at least in the Eastern Time Zone. Our company encourages — but does not require – our employees to work in our offices in Washington, DC and London.

Key Performance Indicators

  • New business sales, measured by the monetary value of new client contracts, and in the number of new clients you bring in who will be successful at using our platform
  • Inbound qualified sales leads generated through marketing activities
  • Qualified sales leads from prospecting activities, partner referrals and other sources
  • Success at helping your team members continually boost their own sales and marketing results

Compensation

Base Salary: You will receive a base salary in the range of $160,000 to $180,000 annually, depending on prior experience, proven abilities and relevant key attributes.

Incentive Plan: You will have a substantial performance-based incentive plan, contingent on the team’s attaining quarterly and annual sales quotas. The bonus plan is uncapped to incentivize you to go above and beyond. The plan will reward both leadership and team performance, aligning your success with the overall achievements of the Growth team.
