Head of Finance

Magic’s mission is to build safe AGI that accelerates humanity’s progress on the world’s most important problems. We believe the most promising path to safe AGI lies in automating research and code generation to improve models and solve alignment more reliably than humans can alone. Our approach combines frontier-scale pre-training, domain-specific RL, ultra-long context, and test-time compute to achieve this goal.

About the role:

As the first Finance hire at Magic, you will play a critical role in shaping the financial future of our company. You will be responsible for both strategic and tactical financial management, ensuring that our financial operations support our mission to deploy safe AGI effectively.

What you might work on:

• Building and maintaining comprehensive financial models to support strategic decision-making and business planning
• Handling day-to-day accounting tasks, including managing accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
• Leading the financial planning for the launch of Magic's AI Software Engineer product, including developing pricing strategies, forecasting revenue, and assessing profitability
• Making banking decisions to ensure optimal growth of existing capital and future revenue streams, while maintaining a focus on safety and liquidity
• Developing and implementing financial processes and controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with tax regulations and other financial legislation
• Providing financial forecasts, budgets, insights and recommendations to our CEO, Board, and investors
  
  

What we’re looking for:

• Strong expertise in both accounting and finance, with a hands-on approach
• Proven track record of setting up and scaling accounting and finance processes from scratch in a startup environment
• Experience in building and maintaining financial models for strategic planning
• Experience at companies with significant capex and business models similar to Magic, such as biotech, deeptech, or SaaS
• Passion for our mission to safely deploy AGI

Compensation, benefits and perks (US):

• Annual salary range: $200K - $300K
• Equity is a significant part of total compensation, in addition to salary
• 401(k) plan with 6% salary matching
