The Disbursement Supervisor is responsible for management, development, control and oversight of a team of Inforce professionals. This position works closely with members of the Policy Administration team and performs both a leadership and management function. The Disbursement Supervisor is expected to carry out their duties and responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with EquiTrust’s Company Values of Integrity, Leadership, Accountability, Teamwork and Passion.

The Disbursement Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day tasks of the team and works to meet team and department objectives through training and coaching team members, ensuring efficient workflows, monitoring employee productivity levels, handling escalated calls and providing guidance to team members regarding application of policies and procedures. The Disbursement Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of financial transaction processing including, but not limited to withdrawals, surrenders, RMD’s, 1035 Exchanges, qualified transfers, income for life payments and life insurance withdrawals, loans and surrenders. The individual must have strong mathematical skills, effective communication and presentation skills and the ability to work effectively as an individual contributor and a team leader. The Disbursement Supervisor leads their team to meet or exceed the Company’s customer service standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages employees, including but not limited to the following activities: makes recommendations for hiring, termination, promotions and transfers, assessing and completing performance appraisals, responsibility allocations and task completion, problem identification and resolution and other day-to-day people management and leadership responsibilities.
  • Regulates, monitors and approves employees’ time off and overtime hours to ensure the department is properly staffed at all times and addresses any attendance challenges that impact the productivity and performance of the individual and the team.
  • Coaches and develops team to ensure the department meets the needs of the customer and the Company; Provides development opportunities to team members; Addresses any areas of improvement directly with the team member and in a professional and respectful manner with the goal of improving employee performance.
  • Maintains knowledge of and interprets current policies and procedures and allows for exceptions when deemed necessary. Brings complex issues to the attention of Manager or Assistant Vice President and seeks guidance and approval when necessary. Provides recommendations for policies and procedures based on interpretation and application of policies and procedures.
  • Thoroughly comprehends the life and annuity financial distribution transactions and procedures; ensuring the quality of work performed of others meets the department expectations.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of annuity and life product features while adhering to state regulatory requirements for processing of financial transactions and requests.
  • Provides technical expertise to the team and handles complex and escalated issues independently.
  • Composes written correspondence directed to business partners, agents and/or owners of contracts and policies.
  • Organizes, analyzes and submits reports for completed and outstanding department tasks and various metrics to provide data to the management team; Uses report data to direct the daily workflow for all team members.
  • Performs quality analysis and reviews on completed work products of team members to ensure high-quality customer service, compliance with applicable regulations and consistent and accurate application of procedures throughout the team.
  • Either independently or with the department manager or Assistant Vice President leads team meetings.
  • Assists team with processing of life and annuity financial distribution transactions including, but not limited to, withdrawals, loans, surrenders, RMD’s, exchanges, transfers, income for life payments as needed.
  • Supports the Policy Administration team and other departments on an as needed basis.
  • Willingly takes on additional responsibilities as requested in order to accomplish department and Company objectives.
  • Actively participates and contributes to the goals and objectives of the Company by working collaboratively and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have strong mathematical, analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work effectively both as an individual contributor and as a team leader.
  • Ability to prioritize workflows, establish and meet deadlines and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Ability to adapt to change and facilitate change management within the team environment.
  • Strong understanding of Annuity and/or Life insurance products.
  • Advanced computer skills and the ability to navigate multiple systems and programs including Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) proprietary systems and other technology solutions.
  • Excellent phone presence and skills in handling escalated calls under pressure.
  • Carries out responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with EquiTrust’s Core Values and focus on customer service; Works to create an environment of openness and trust for all employees and strives for continued professional skills development.

Training or Work Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of annuity and/or life insurance experience required.
  • Minimum 3 years of life and annuity insurance experience preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Knowledge of annuity financial service requests preferred.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Working Conditions:

  • On-Site Location: West Des Moines, Iowa.
  • Business Travel: Travel not required/likely.
