Director Marketing Communications

Summary/Objective

The Marketing and Communications Manager will report directly to the President/CEO. . He/she will oversee the development of goals and strategies and to execute a comprehensive marketing and communications plan to promote NDRI’s biomedical research resource services to the scientific community. He/she is responsible for oversight of the organization’s communication initiatives; including but not limited to; NDRI's website, overall web presence, social media, internal communication, and marketing collateral. Additional responsibilities include media relations, digital marketing, conference marketing, thought leadership and vendor management.


Essential Functions

  • Oversee all marketing and communications goals and strategies to elevate the NDRI’s profile among target audiences.
  • Develop and implement marketing and communications plans for existing programs as well as new products/programs to build engagement with scientific audiences.
  • Develop and implement internal communications strategies that foster a cohesive organizational culture, keeping employees informed and engaged in organizational developments.
  • Utilize marketing metrics to measure and demonstrate effectiveness of outreach and campaigns and continuously improve customer experience.
  • Lead and execute ongoing website and social media activities to support new client recruitment and revenue growth including, but not limited to, content development, site navigation and customer conversion optimization.
  • Create and implement approaches to track competitive intelligence data to monitor NDRI’s market share in the procurement and distribution of human biospecimens and inform strategies for new and existing business development efforts.
  • Develop and regularly update crisis and issues communication plans and protocols to protect the organization’s reputation during challenging situations; act as a proficient spokesperson during a crisis, ensuring transparent and consistent communication.
  • Lead the development and management of all exhibit and related materials for use by NDRI at scientific conferences and other meetings. Manage pre and post conference/meeting communications.
  • Oversee editorial and design control of all marketing and public relations material utilized by the organization.
  • Establish and maintain effective business relationships with writers, printers, designers, and other vendors, including contract negotiation and management.
  • Create and/or identify public relations opportunities that will bolster, maintain and protect the organization’s brand and reputation.
  • Some travel is required.


Supervisory Responsibility


  • This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the Digital Marketing Specialist.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work


  • This is a full-time position that is on-site three days a week (Monday, Tuesday & Thursday). Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Required Education and Experience


1.    Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field with a minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience successfully managing communications and marketing functions.

2.    Project management experience in a multi-project environment.

3.    Proven experience in developing and implementing effective marketing and communications plans.

4.    Advanced knowledge and experience with digital and email marketing, website development, social media, and content marketing.

5.    Work collaboratively and respectfully with other employees; actively listen and function as a team player; and accept constructive suggestions for improving job performance.

6.    Excellent verbal and written communications skills with demonstrated success in crafting substantive and cohesive messages and successfully communicating to key scientific audiences resulting in a measurable difference (e.g., elevated profile, broader visibility, increased funding, etc.) to the organization.


Preferred Skills

1.    Experience in the biomedical research and/or health related fields.

2.    Experience in non-profits/or professional associations.

3.    Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM), website development and email marketing software programs.

4.    Demonstrated writing and editorial experience; ability to manage the production process from assigning and editing written materials, to design, layout, printing, and delivery.

5.    Experience in relevant platforms such as Meta Business Suite and other social media management tools.

6.    Strategic and creative thinker with experience in engaging scientific audiences and stakeholders.
