Job Summary

The Senior Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading and managing the human resources function of the organization, ensuring alignment with the business goals and strategies. The Senior Human Resources Manager oversees the areas of employee relations, performance management, HRIS and compliance. The Senior Human Resources Manager also provides coaching, guidance, and recommendations to corporate employees and leaders, and collaborates with the Vice President of Human Resources on key initiatives and projects.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead Corporate HR Manager, HR Generalist and HR Coordinators in achieving department and organizational objectives.
  • Manage onboarding, orientation and engagement of associates for the corporate office.
  • Monitor and improve associate engagement, satisfaction, and retention rates, by conducting surveys, feedback sessions, and exit interviews.
  • Partner with organization leaders in conducting investigations; resolving all employee disagreements, and terminations in full compliance with federal and state guidelines.
  • Provide HR day to day support, performance and employee relations management, interviewing prospective candidates and hiring for potential, active leader in sharing insights to increase organizational efficiency and effectiveness, and managing key HR processes such as annual compensation process and performance evaluations.
  • Proactively manage performance issues to mitigate risk to the business and ensuring that employees are given consistent feedback on their performance.
  • Proactively manage employee relations to ensure optimal performance and work environment.
  • Prepare regular reports required by governmental entities or requested by third-party organizations or other departments.
  • Develop key performance indicators for the Human Resources department, and identify opportunities for process improvements based on trends and results.
  • Form effective partnerships with leaders and employees to develop thoughtful strategies focusing on talent acquisition, talent management and development, training/upskilling plans engagement, recognition and fostering an inclusive culture.
  • Responsible for complying with all related state and federal laws and regulations, and firm policies and procedures applicable to the position.
  • Perform other duties related to Books-A-Million employee management as directed by the Vice President of Human Resources.

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive human resources experience, with at least 5 years in a human resources leadership role with skills in talent management, employee relations, recruiting, and performance management.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, anesentationd local employment laws and regulations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and pr skills.
  • Experience in retail industry and/or multiunit organization is a plus.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including use of advanced formulas, pivot tables and reporting, charting, conditional formatting and ability to optimize Excel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.

  • Ability to drive change and innovation in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to analyze data and metrics and provide strategic insights and recommendations.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Must be able to sit at a computer or desk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to use hands/arms to operate keyboard, telephone and for repetitive motion activities.
  • Must be able to lift objects up to 25 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Must be able to communicate using speech, sight, and sound with or without assistive device.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop or crouch while performing daily activities of the job.
