Job Description

The Vice President of Risk, Ethics, and Compliance is an executive leader providing influential thought leadership and strategic guidance to the Enterprise, bringing an outside in perspective to forecast external risks, and collaborates with leaders cross-functionally to align priorities and resources to address risk and compliance issues to meet the expectations of our regulators and clients both now and in the future. The Vice President provides leadership to the compliance teams that manage the monitoring, training, and updating of the company's code of conduct and compliance policies and provides risk informed consultative guidance to departments implementing compliance requirements and updating operational policies and procedures. This role is a future focused and team-oriented member of the Legal Affairs and Policy Senior Leadership team, focused on the transformation of the capabilities and talent of the LAP division to a proactive, value-added Division of One.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles and develops teams with the business acumen, relationship skills, communication skills, understanding of regulatory and risk management requirements and data to inform and influence the decision-making process of key business leaders in a rapidly changing regulatory environment.
  • Skillfully and transparently communicates cross functionally and to Enterprise Senior Leadership and Legal Division Leadership to deliver, monitor, and communicate progress toward short and long term goals.
  • Drives a transformation in the risk and compliance function inclusive of a mind-set shift to client centric consultative guidance, developing new capabilities to drive proactive behaviors and performance.
  • Demonstrates the ability to stay current with external and industry trends for risk, ethics & compliance in the insurance and healthcare industry to identify opportunities for collaboration, alignment, process improvement and best practice sharing in the Enterprise.
  • Enables business transformation while forging strong business and technology partnerships, effectively collaborating with peer executives, C-Suite and leaders across the enterprise demonstrating the ability to use compliance and business acumen to guide prioritization and planning processes.
  • Build, mature, and maintain a risk-based compliance program while partnering with business teams as an advisor and thought leader.
  • Build, mature, and maintain a collaborative enterprise risk management function, executed through a matrix of enterprise functions providing insight, trends, best practices, and practical guidance.
  • Responsible for developing an annual compliance agenda informed by external trends and internal strategic priorities and reporting to the Executive Compliance Committee areas of focus and progress against compliance goals on a quarterly basis.
  • Develops relationships across the Enterprise and with DDPA partners and members plans to become a go-to thought leader and trusted advisor for compliance issues.
  • Leads and develops capabilities to continuously conduct privacy and compliance vulnerability assessments and develops solutions to address compliance concerns.
  • In partnership with leaders in Finance, Technology and Internal Audit, advances a holistic point of view of the state of compliance and risk health of the enterprise and supports reporting to the Audit Committees of the Board of Delta Dental of California and the Board of Delta Dental of Pennsylvania and the Enterprise Compliance Committee.

Qualifications

  • 16+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; 10+ years supervisory experience.
  • Ability to collaborate, mobilize others, and influence with and without authority by building trust and communicating effectively.
  • Strong reputation for integrity and ethics.
  • Committed to developing positive relationships internally and externally.
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to be flexible, creative and solution oriented.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, team management, and leadership skills and demonstrated ability to coach teams to outcomes.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information.

  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.

Base Pay Information

The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity. $205,200 - $426,900
