U.S.VETS, the nation’s largest veteran services nonprofit, seeks a National Communications Coordinator in our National Office in Los Angeles, CA.

The position reports to the National Communications Manager and is part of the national development team with responsibilities to support U.S.VETS sites across the country. The National Communications Coordinator will help implement communication strategies and initiatives that increase U.S.VETS’ visibility and brand awareness through multiple traditional, digital and social platforms. The role will support communications in telling the U.S.VETS story, the stories of those we serve and the impact we have on veterans experiencing homelessness and navigating the challenges of transitioning to civilian life. The coordinator will assist the communications team in creating and disseminating branded materials, resources and campaign content to internal and external partners in support of U.S.VETS’ programs and services. The incumbent will also be responsible for facilitating and project managing incoming communications requests and scheduling social media. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, entrepreneurial and a strong writer who exhibits an understanding of both traditional and digital media landscapes.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the creation of communications materials that includes but is not limited to website and social media content, eblasts, brochures, annual reports, fact sheets, toolkits, blogs, newsletter articles, press releases and presentations; keep them updated on a recurring schedule; and ensure appropriate storage, access and inventory.
  • Curate and calendar compelling social media content in collaboration with the communications, development and other cross-functional teams, ensuring content is posted in a timely manner and that it adheres to digital best practices, as well as organizational branding, tone, voice and subject matter.
  • Oversee community management for social profiles and ensure all messages, comments and questions are addressed promptly.
  • Monitor social media performance to adjust strategies across platforms to respond to trends, increase visibility and viewer traffic.
  • Secure client stories and fulfill requests for photos and video as needed for website, social media and collateral materials.
  • Build, schedule and manage email communications using Constant Contact to keep supporters updated on U.S.VETS news, events and development opportunities.
  • Update U.S.VETS’ websites with new and relevant content when necessary.
  • Research, develop and monitor editorial and event calendar.
  • Help institute and maintain project management system to track incoming requests, workflows and deadlines.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings with teams across the organization.
  • Develop engaging media coverage and social reports and newsletters to merchandise our work.
  • Maintain various print and online subscription services for department.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in in English, journalism, public relations, communication, marketing or related field.
  • A minimum of three years in a communications, social media or marketing role.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, quick thinking and always a few steps ahead, anticipating the needs of the team and cross-functional partners.
  • Strong time management, organization and prioritization skills with the ability to multitask and meet multiple concurrent deadlines.
  • Superior writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Proficiency managing multiple social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and LinkedIn.
  • Digitally savvy and experience with social media management tools, content management systems, desktop publishing, email marketing platforms and digital analytics.
  • Basic video editing, photography and graphic design skills highly desired.
