The Role

As the Vice President of Engineering, you will spearhead our engineering efforts, shaping the strategic direction of our software development initiatives, technical platform and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable products, and technical solutions. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will lead, mentor and grow a dynamic engineering team to support DRINKS's growth and drive our position in the alcohol e-commerce space while delivering on the strategy and execution of DRINKS' product portfolio, apps, features and extensions and our groundbreaking 4th-tier merchant solutions. You'll play a pivotal role in delivering the products and features to empower non-alcohol licensed merchants to seamlessly participate in online alcohol sales. This position is a unique opportunity to build the products and features that transform an industry, bridging the gap between traditional alcohol sales and modern e-commerce. This role is rooted at the intersection of e-commerce, regulatory and compliance tech (RegTech), Shopify ecosystem (and beyond) and the DRINKS Wine-as-a Service (WaaS) offerings, tech stack and api’s. This position is a regular, full-time, exempt position. DRINKS is home-based in Los Angeles; however, we are now a remote-first company.


What You’ll Do

  • Lead and expand the engineering organization, instilling a culture of technical excellence and innovation
  • Establish and drive engineering and operational excellence, setting high standards for software development practices and performance.
  • Measure and enhance software development maturity, ensuring our teams and processes align with industry best practices.
  • Utilize modern tools and frameworks to boost efficiencies in product development, significantly reducing time-to-market while ensuring robustness and scalability.
  • Oversee the development and strategic integration of our core products, including our proprietary WaaS, RegTech solutions, and DRINKS AI technology.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align technology solutions with business goals, facilitating seamless market adaptation and customer satisfaction.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, mentoring team members in achieving their highest potential and removing barriers to their success.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop top engineering talent, fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity and innovation.

About You

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of senior leadership experience in engineering within SaaS, e-commerce, AdTech, marketplace or RegTech industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead mid to large technical teams (25+ engineers) and manage complex software development projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple product development engineering teams responsible for delivery commercial products to market (on time, on budget, on quality).
  • Extensive background in building platforms, services and api’s in languages such as Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, React and GraphQL (Shopify frameworks and api’s are a plus!).
  • Extensive experience with modern software engineering practices and leading-edge technologies.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, capable of motivating teams and collaborating effectively with other business units.
  • Experience in regulatory-rich environments, with a keen understanding of compliance challenges and solutions in digital platforms.


Nice to Haves and/or Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the alcohol or other regulated industry.
  • Experience in SaaS, Marketplace and/or B2B platforms.
  • Experience in Data, ML and/or AI integrated into product features.
  • Knowledge or prior work with digital transformation in traditional industries,



Primary Location: Los Angeles, CA.

Primary Location Compensation Range: $250,000 - $290,000/year
