A Brief Overview

The Physician Liaison and scheduler works in the division of Cardiothoracic surgery and reports to the administrator for the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Work with the Cardiac Service Line to improve Cardiothoracic surgical services provided to patients in preparation of upcoming operations, adult surgery schedulers, referring physician office staff, patients and their families.

What You Will Do

  • Apply thorough understanding of blood components and surgical procedures to know what components are required for each surgical procedure.
  • Arrange appointments with admissions, and coordinates with resident PA's for the history/physical and consent aspect of the admission.
  • Assist with physician referral relations by ensuring that the operating surgeons speak to each referring physician at the conclusion of every operation.
  • Communicate with the blood bank and blood donor center to make sure that the patient's entire order is filled.
  • Coordinate donor designated blood do0nations and all blood orders.
  • Determine patient insurance eligibility and obtain pre-authorization for patient admissions and surgery.
  • Identify all information required for the surgeon's evaluation of the patient's condition.
  • Obtain medical records, x-rays, angiograms, and test results from outside medical offices and facilities in order to facilitate the insurance negotiation process.
  • Schedule patient tests, hospital admissions surgery and special procedures.
  • Understands what tests and procedures are required prior to surgical intervention.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Experience Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $37.68 - $42.43 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
